Present: What types of buses are used in Nitra nowadays? What is the situation in railway transport like today? What kind of transport can tourists use? Is there any airport in Nitra? Future: What improvements can we expect?

  4. The public transport in Nitra dates back to the year 1866 when the first omnibus served as the only kind of public transport. It was a carriage drawn by horses. 1922-1925 – era of Omnibuses.

  5. The First Omnibus

  6. The first bus in Nitra was Ford. It was a private bus. People liked it. In 1948 – the private buses were canceled. The urban public transport arose. At that time, there were 5 buses and in 1950 7 buses.

  7. 1987 – 1990 - Nitra was considering the construction of tram lines.Later that idea failed due to the severe financial difficulties.

  9. One of the most important parts of public transport in the past was railway.There is a narrowgauge railway in the open air museum Agrokomplex.

  20. The railway station in Nitra

  21. The history of railway station in Nitra dates back tothe second half of the nineteenth century. The main building was built around 1876, and extended with train dispatcher offices in 1921. Nowadaysdesign of the building dates back to 1925, after the electrification of the station was finished. Nitra does not belongto main railroads and the significance of railway transport is only regional.

  22. Though railway traffic is not as popular nowadays as in the past, it is used quite often.

  23. TAXI There are a lot of taxi cabs in Nitra. A special taxi for disabled and old people.

  24. There is a tourist train which is called “Nitra Express“. It operates from April to September. The length of the route from Svätopluk square to the castle and back is 5 km. It lasts 45 minutes with 15 minutes break.

Plague column and the castle 11.) 15 minutes break 12.) back to Svätopluk square through Farska and Kupecka street Tourists get a lot of information from a professional commentary during the journey.

  26. There is an airport for small planes near Nitra. It is in Janíkovce and it is 135 meters above the sea level. The length of its runway is about 1,5 km. The airport offers sightseeing flights for tourists.

  28. The International Car Show is taking place in Nitra every autumn.The newest buses are also presented.

  31. BOATS A boat has never been used for public transport in Nitra. There might be water transport on the river Nitra. It would be very popular.
