  1. Welcome Class of 2016 “We moved to Stillwater because we knew the reputation of the elementary schools. What a gift to find that Stillwater Jr. High School was rich with academic and extracurricular offerings to meet the unique needs and aspirations of our daughter and our son. As a parent, I’ve always appreciated knowing that the teachers and staff really know my children.” SJHS Parent “I would encourage anyone to go to this school. All About SJHS: Daily Schedule 2010-11 Doors to the school open at 7:30 a.m. 0. 8:00-8:20 Advisory 1. 8:25-9:15 2. 9:20-10:10 3. 10:10-11:45 Lunch/Class 4. 11:50-12:40 5. 12:45-1:35 6. 1:40-2:30 Students must leave the building by 2:45 p.m. unless under the direct supervision of a school employee

All About SJHS:Teaming in the 7th Grade • “What are Teams?” • 7th Graders are split into two Teams • Gold Team and Blue Team • Each Team has a Band, Choir and Orchestra • Each Team consists of the same group of 5 teachers that the students share • Math, Science, Social Studies, English and PE/Health

  6. All About SJHS:Advisory Advisories provide students with opportunities to build positive relationships and promote academic preparedness. Components: First 20 minutes of each day. • Time allocated to preparing for student led conferences. • Weekly Schedule: • Monday SJHS Orientation & Homework Help • Tuesday 7th Math skill building • Wednesday 7th Reading • Thursday 7th Eagle Pride • Friday 7th Activity day

Plan and Prepare for your Future • Education opens doors! • Start talking about the future and what you want for your student in junior high school and beyond. • While there are many factors that will determine the kinds of opportunities that will come your way, the most significant determining factor will be your education.

Math, English and Science Placement • English (Honors) • English placement will be determined by assessment results and 6th grade achievement • Math (Algebra) • Placement in math classes is determined by the following criteria: • Qualifying score on the fall NWEA • Qualifying score on 6th grade semester math assessment • Qualifying score on algebra readiness assessment • Science (Honors) • Science placement will be determined by assessment results and 6th grade achievement

Health Services:Ms. Hale Immunization Requirements • Needs to be completed and turned in before you are able to pick-up schedule for 2010-2011 school year on August 31, 2010 (Soar into 7th Grade). • At least 3 DTP's (Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis) • At least 3 polio • Tetanus/diphtheria booster (Td) • Two MMR's (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) • Hepatitis B series (3 shots over 6 month period) • 2 Varicella (chickenpox) shots OR history of the disease, as verified by a physician Seventh Grade Physical Exams

Special Education:Mr. Robinson • 6th to 7th Orientation Night- February 1, 2010 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. • SJHS Courtyard • Parent and Child are invited to attend • Services provided- • SLD - specific learning disability • EBD - emotional/behavioral disorder • OHD - other health disabilities • SpL - speech/language disorder • ASD - autism spectrum disorder • DCD - developmental cognitive disabilities • and more.

  15. Special Education • Transition Process for 6th to 7th grade • 6th Grade Case Managers share preliminary information with SJHS staff to set a draft schedule of special education classes. Staff is currently working on this (January, 2010) • Draft schedule completed and parents register at SJHS (February, 2010) • Parents & 6th Grade Case Manager discuss draft 7th grade schedule as needed • 6th Grade Case Manager meets with preliminary 7th Grade Case Manager to review schedule and share additional information (May, 2010) • Individual meetings with students, parents, 6th grade case manager and SJHS staff as requested • Individual tours with students and 6th grade Case Managers as requested

Important Dates • June 4th, 2010 Parents receive SJHS information via Friday Folder from 6th grade teachers • May/June, 2010 Final Placements made in English 7 (or Honors,) Math and Science 7 (or Honors) • August 31, 2010 Soar Into Seventh Orientation 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. • September 7, 2010 1st Day of School- Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the first class starts at 8:00 a.m. • September 16, 2010 Open House – 6:30-8:15 pm 5:30-6:30- Internet Safety with Tim Harris, PLANNER training with Jeff Hudson, or NAVANCE training with a school guidance counselor

  21. Registration Process • If you have not already picked up a registration sheet, please pick up a registration sheet from the tables outside the auditorium. • Fill out the registration sheet.
