  4. 7 Core Functions MOGA, is the lead trade organization representing Montana’s outfitting industry and serves seven core functions related to that role. • Advocacy – a relentless and highly effective voice of the industry • Communication -keep the membership informed on critical issues and actions affecting them

  5. 7 Core Functions cont. • Legislation - advocate for responsible yet minimal state and federal regulation of the industry • Education - accurately and positively characterize the contributions of the industry and conduct focused training opportunities that aid MOGA members in compliance and best practices

  6. 7 Core Functions cont. • Industry Sustainability - promote, encourage, and assist with succession from guide to outfitter status, seek stability for the industry in statute, regulation and market share • Marketing - serve as a marketer and provider of tools to promote members and their businesses. Accomplishments 2018!In the Area of Advocacy • Expanded communication efforts in Custer Gallatin • MOGA Partners Pack Trip – Mike Colpo • Co-Hosted National Assembly of Outfitter Associations • Participated in Recreation Summit • Leadership in repeal of EO on minimum wage and overtime • Supported GO Act and Restore Our Parks

  13. Accomplishments 2018!Advocacy cont. • Montana Board of Outfitters • Final Rules for Outfitter Assistant • Revised Packing Manual and Test • Fee Reduction saving the Industry 1.45 million over 5 years

  14. Accomplishments 2018!Advocacy cont. • Opposed Antlerless only restrictions proposed by FWP • Worked with FWP Licensing to resolve ALS look up and client draw success • Chair of Professional Outfitters and Guides of America (POGA)

Accomplishments 2018!In the Area of Communication • Launched MOGA’s History and Legacy Project • Administered 8 separate Member surveys • MOGA Facebook –Two posts/ week, featured Outfitter and news, we have 1,921 followers and Five Star review rating! • Printed Materials: HADF Brochure, Website Management Manual for members, Banner Ad Brochure, Online Search Guide – users, How to make the most from Preference Points, MOGA Annual Report • Monthly Member Communications

  16. Accomplishments 2018!In the Area of Legislation • Established a Legislative Frame Work • Passed six, 2 vetoed and one killed in Committee • Killed every anti-outfitter bill in committee There has not been a SINGLE Governor signed piece of anti-outfitting legislation passed since 1993!

  17. Accomplishments 2018!In the Area of Education • Spoke to many groups on Outfitting and Tourism • Revised the Packing manual and test questions. • Provide Members a Best of Class Convention! • Travel Insurance Program • MOGA Member Tool Kit

Accomplishments 2018!In the Area of Industry Sustainability • Support, encourage, and assist with succession from guide to outfitter status • Knowledgeable outfitter members helping members navigate the process. • Relentless objection to rules, policy and statute that unnecessarily restricts or creates barriers to entry.

Accomplishments 2018!In the Area of Marketing • Electronic Concierge Service • Over 2,200 individual requests/inquiries were sent to MOGA member outfitters through the MOGA website in 2018. • Attendance at select sport shows to promote MOGA member services • Participated fully in tourism surveys • Outfitting is Tourism Campaign

Big Hearts under the Big Sky • We are Montana’s PREMIERE charity serving MILITARY service men and women, CHILDREN who face a life-threatening illness and WOMEN who suffer from breast cancer. • Since 2008, Big Hearts program has served 70 families/groups totaling 406 people, involving 47 MOGA Outfitter businesses and accounting for over $500,000 in donated Montana Outdoor adventures.
