  1. Council of College Faculties (CCF) Report Fall 2012 Orientation August 2012 Prepared by: Fernando Quijano

  2. CCF Representatives for DSU, 2012-2014: • Fernando Quijano • Dr. Suzanne Russ (Psychologist!)

  3. The CCF works roughly like this: The State Board of Higher Education determines which powers it will ascribe to the faculty. For example, they grant the faculty academic freedom. They are also willing to take into account the views and recommendations of the faculty before making their decisions.

  4. They could take all those powers away from us at any time. It just wouldn’t look very good.

  5. We are allowed to look at budgets and see the ideas for capital projects. We also prepare salary studies and submit recommendations to the SBHE for faculty pay raises every two years, during the legislative season.

  6. This year, we will continue our discussion with the Board about “maximizing efficiencies.” These broad titles usually turn into something more specific, and it is usually in the details where the monkey hides. There is no shortage of opinions, both favorable and not, about this plan, so we’ll keep you informed.

  7. The Vice President of CCF also attends the Academic Affairs Council, which is the meeting of academic vice presidents throughout the state. I am the VP of CCF this year, so I will be in attendance. This group has been highly favorable of faculty. Everyone has an excellent academic background and seems to be truly concerned about new academic initiatives.

  8. These were the facts we used to make recommendations to the SBHE during our last motion of the year 2011-2012: In 2011:  Tenure/Tenure Track 38% or Fulltime 43% In 2006: Tenure/Tenure Track 37% or Fulltime 49%

  9. We presented two recommendations: Recommendation:  CCF requests that the SBHE establish a minimum target of returning the percentage of full time to the 2006 percentages Recommendation:  Support the delivery of a new programs but ensure that the programs are adequately staffed with tenured faculty.

  10. As of July 2012, the numbers for DSU were: 99 Full time (includes annual, non-tenure track faculty): 76 Tenure track 44 tenured (this number will change because 6 faculty were tenured this year, but two tenured faculty retired) 32 probationary 52 Terminal degrees 111 Adjunct faculty 52 Dual Credit faculty
