  2. Welcome Parents! • The purpose of tonight’s meeting is to discuss the HORIZONS Curriculum. • Please let me know if you have any questions during the presentation.

Curriculum Goals • To enrich and extend learning. • To provide opportunities for students to learn with and from other peers. • To meet the needs of all gifted learners. • To incorporate rigorous and relevant real-world learning experiences. • Units are designed to correlate with GPS (Georgia Performance Standards) & Common Core Standards

  4. Make-up Policy • Excused from daily work during missed class. • Mastery of objectives required. • Test and long range assignments must be made up in a reasonable time period.

  7. Evaluations: • HORIZONS Assessment (2 times a year) • 1st 9 weeks progress report.doc • Progress Report Info.

  8. Units of Study {1st 9 weeks} • Athenian Secret: Students will solve various types of arithmetic puzzles. • Link Winks: Brain Teasers with a twist. • Vocabulary: Wordwathchers • 1st and 2ndVocabulary Cartoon of the Day • 3rd Vocabulary Cartoons: Building a vocabulary with visual mnemonics

  10. Upcoming Events • September 10th Projects are due • October 12th: Fall Festival (donate can sodas and bottles of water) • Sign – up Sheet • October 22nd: Reading Assignment Book Report is due
