  2. Homework and Grades • Check agenda nightly • Students should expect homework regularly. Please plan accordingly. • Check grades online. If you have not received your new login information, please contact the DRMS front office. • All teachers have websites and emails please feel free to use them often.

  3. AttendanceSee page 3 in the agenda • Students with chronic unexcused absences will be required to attend Saturday School – no county transportation is provided. • Excuse notes should be sent in the day student returns to school and should include ID#; student’s first and last name; date of absence; reason for absence; and parent signature. E-mailed notes cannot be excepted. • Notes sent six days or longer after the absence will not be excused. • Please DO NOT plan appointments or trips during testing weeks. See page 8 of the CCSD handbook and discipline code.

  9. We could use your help • We still need lots and lots of tissues. • Don’t forget the t-shirt orders and money. • We all could use new or used tennis balls. These are for the bottom of our desks and chairs. • We need parent volunteer for activities, field trips and assistance with copying.

Ms. Lockrem: 8th grade Reading Yearly Progression of Units Year Long: Vocabulary Development, Active Reading Strategies, Literary Response • Utilize a variety of strategies to determine word meanings. • Study of Greek and Latin roots. • Use a variety of strategies(before, during, after reading) to demonstrate comprehension of literary text. • Produce a response that analyzes, evaluates, and interprets a literary work. • Making and supporting judgments of literary works. Periodic: Novel Study • Identify and understand the elements of a novel. • Plot structure, characterization, theme, and conflict.

  11. 8th grade Reading Yearly Progression of Units August through October: Nonfiction and Functional Text • Identify and understand the elements of informational text. • Newspapers, magazines, reference materials, websites, textbooks. • Connecting to personal experiences through biographical and autobiographical works. October through December: Plot Structure and Author’s Purpose • Identify and understand the elements of literary text. • Stories, vignettes, narrative writings. • Identify and understand point of view, tone, and mood in literary works. January through March: Author’s Style and Character Analysis • Identify and understand author’s use of satire, irony, and figurative language in literary text. • Identify character traits and different roles in literary text. March through May: Poetry and Georgia Authors • Identify and understand the purpose, elements, and themes of different poetic forms. • Creative writing. • Georgia authors unique contributions to a variety of literary genres.
