Biography • Names Peter Panto (AKA “Pete” Panto) • Born in 1911- killed in 1939 • Was a longshoreman and a union activist. • He was against the mafia group who ran the ILA (International Longshore association ) because they were cruel and corrupt. • He was killed by crime group from the ILA who were against the union rebellion.

Panto’s Death • At age 28, Pete Panto’s body was found in a lime pit. • The pier where he worked was on the East River just upstream from the Brooklyn Bridge. • Before his death, Panto received a telephone call at the corner cigar store. • After this call his mood had gone dark and he had said things such as “I am meeting two men I don’t like..” “If I am not back by 10:00 tomorrow morning tell the police.” • At around 7:00 that same evening, a car pulled up outside of his apartment containing two longshoremen he knew, and another man who was unfamiliar.
