  2. Fungi Structure • Made of filament-like cells hyphae. • Hyphae grow together to form a twisted mass called mycelium. • Mycelium is usually underground.

  3. Fungi Reproduction • Sexual or Asexual • Sexual Reproduction-sex cells join and make new fungus • Asexual Reproduction-fungi breaks off and forms a new fungi. SPORES

  4. There are 5 types of Fungi • Threadlike • Sac • Club • Imperfect • Lichens

  5. Threadlike Examples: Molds (shapeless and fuzzy fungi) Reproduces asexually

  6. Sac • Largest group of fungi • Examples: yeasts and truffles • Can reproduce sexually & asexually • Useful fungi: food, medicine, and vitamins

  7. Club • Example: most grocery stores mushrooms • Looks like little umbrellas • Reproduce sexually using spores & hyphae

  8. Imperfect • Examples: athletes foot fungus (bad) Penicillum (good) • Reproduce asexually • Some are used to make cheese, soy sauce, and cola drinks.

  9. Lichens • Combination of fungus and alga. • Only need air, light, and minerals to grow.
