  2. Aims & Objectives • Audit the effect of active diuresis during ESWL on the outcome • Compare our results with recently published results from other centres

  3. Rationale • Distended pelvi-calyceal system provides more room for shock wave treatment • Active urinary flow results in more efficient fragment clearance

  4. Materials & Methods • All patients undergoing ESWL treatment for renal stones from November 2000 to April 2002 • Patients with complicating factors eg metabolic stones are excluded

  5. Materials & Methods • Storz Modulith SL20 Mobile Electro-magnetic lithotripter • 1L Saline infusion started at start of ESWL, given over 30-60 min • Diclofenac 100mg pr • Pethidine 100mg + Maxolon 10mg iv • Frusemide 20mg iv

  6. Materials & Methods • Supine Position • 2000 Shocks • Follow up in Stone Clinic in 3 Weeks

  7. Results • No of Patients 71 • Female 28(39.4%) Male 43(60.6%) • Mean Age 54Y

  8. Results • No of Stones 75 • Left 45 (60%) Right 30 (40%) • Mean Stone Size 11.2mm • Total ESWL Sessions 114 • ESWL Sessions / Stone 1.5
