Introduction • We seek to brief the Standing Committee on our efforts to acquire funding for our Black Economic Empowerment mining projects. • SAWIMA is a group of previously disadvantaged women who are interested in investing in mineral and energy projects.   4. Our Vision • To contribute to the facilitation of the empowerment of previously disadvantaged women especially in the Mining and Petroleum Sectors consistent with the Constitution of South Africa. Prepared by Strategic Consultants stcon@iafrica.com

  5. Our Activities • SAWIMA has been in existence for the past 40 months. Our principal activities include: • 1. Exploring opportunities in our sectors by liaising with: • a. Mining companies; • b. Role players in the industry; • c. Government. Prepared by Strategic Consultants stcon@iafrica.com

  7. Need for Decentralization • We have been in regular contact with the Regional Director in PE. We have received lots of encouragement and many ideas. • We are of the view that greater decentralization will make it possible for her to attend to our needs more urgently. Need for empowerment • The Regional Director needs to be empowered to make firm financial and administrative decisions. • This will make it possible for the Department to be able to translate policy decisions into action plans. • As it is SAWIMA has many plans but no actions.   12. Regular access to the Department of Minerals and Energy.BudgetFinancially we need:1. R1.2million for 2003-2004:+ To establish an office infrastructure;+ Retain the services of basic office staff;+ Retain the services of a Geologist and Strategic Manager.
