  9. Partnering with St. Louis County Police When? Twice a semester 30-40 minutes depending on area covered (hallways/lockers, classrooms, parking lots) Scheduled by school administrator and Coordinator of Student Discipline During or after school Where? 5 high schools Parking lots Hallways/Lockers Who? • Canine, Police Officer, SRO & School Administrator • Coordinator of Student Discipline or Chief of Security What? • Dogs do not come in contact with students • Dogs sniff the air, not students • Students remain in class • Classroom doors will be closed • Marijuana, crack/cocaine, heroin, meth, ecstasy

Guideline Changes • Policy JIH.BP, Interrogations and Searches will remain unchanged • Revised guidelines will: • more clearly define the scope of potential searches (lockers, student cars, cell phones, and use of trained canines) • provide parameters regarding frequency and locations • indicate role of school administrator and School Resource Officer • Once the trained canine alerts to a scent, the school administrator has authority to proceed with a search and will involve the School Resource Officer as needed • The officer accompanying the trained canine will not be involved in any searches
