  7. GOS Metadata Harvest • How to contribute metadata: • Register existing metadata collection for harvesting, specify frequency and time. ArcIMS Server, Isite/ Z39.50, WAF or OAI • Upload metadata as CSDGM XML to the geodata.gov site • Enter metadata into a form at geodata.gov where it will be stored and indexed

  10. Metadata HarvestA scheduled automated process for collecting new and updated metadata from a variety of metadata repositories • First retrieval- all metadata validated. Those containing GOS required content posted to geodata.gov • Previously harvested- only updated metadata retrieved • Validation • Requires GOS minimum metadata • Uses FGDC metatags for validation

GOS Metadata Validation- Metadata Parser (MP) • Error reports forwarded to agency • “Errors” to be remedied • “Warnings” acceptable • Metadata with errors are not posted to geodata.gov • Once errors are corrected, schedule for harvest • Common errors: • Currentness Reference- null (ground condition, publication date, ”free text”) • date format- YYYYMMDD (YYYY minimum)

  13. Registering IMS or WMS • Using agency metadata tool and repository: • Create metadata describing service, enter address in “Online Linkage” and post to agency clearinghouse • On geodata.gov • Login • Go to publish a new record • Enter map service address
