3. LEAD 2021 Strategic objectives • No less than once annually, all students will collaboratively develop, revise, and accomplish a rigorous personalized learning plan leading to college and career readiness and culminating with all graduates possessing a post‐graduate plan aligned with their individual goals. • Every student (PK‐12) will responsibly and effectively use and apply the latest relevant technology and, upon graduation, all students will be able to use technology masterfully in all dimensions of their academic work. • All members of the GCISD family will promote good citizenship and demonstrate mutual respect. • All students will be positive participants in their local communities and our global society.

4. How does lead 2021 affect 5th graders at H.e.s.? • Each class has created a Vision Statement. Students will create personal achievement goals based on their Vision Statement. • Student success will guide our curriculum. • Students will be even more accountable for their learning. • The demand for success will be high.

Reading • In class—reading workshop, soft grouping, data folders • Outside of class—EL menus, book in bag • At home—150 min/per week, one book per month at Lexile level (will require summary and review) • PROBE Notebooks in all content areas • Scholastic Reading Counts • Reading Makes Cents program

Language arts • Spelling • Spelling tests, watch newsletter! • Menu/activities, check website! • Accountable for spelling in ALL content areas • Grammar • Will be taught through reading, writing, and spelling • Accountable for grammar in ALL content areas • Writing • Writing Workshop • Shift from narrative to informational • Will be writing in ALL content areas

Responsibility • Responsibility in all areas will be documented on students’ Conduct Calendars. • Expectations • Student has materials and assignments ready when class begins. • Student maintains organizational guidelines. • Student keeps personal and room supplies neatly in assigned area. • Student works to the best of their abilities.

15. assignments • Students are expected to complete all assigned work to the best of their abilities. All assignments will be checked for understanding but may not be recorded in the grade book. • Planner—all students are expected to complete their planners daily. Please check websites for up-to-date information regarding homework. • Late Work—students will lose 10 points for each day the assignment is late. On the fourth day an assignment is late, the student will receive a zero. Students will also miss their recess each day the assignment is late.

16. homework • Official GCISD definition: Homework may be any preparation, work or activity that a pupil does on non-school time at the request or with the consent of his or her teacher. • Homework will reinforce and provide practice for content and skills previously taught. • Expect homework daily. We do not have a specific schedule for each content area. • Check planners and websites.
