  2. 5th Grade Class Schedule 8:20-8:30 Morning Announcements 8:30-9:05 Writing with homeroom 9:10-10:35 1stSegment 10:40-11:25 Specials w/ 1st segment 11:25-12:10 Social Studies/Science Segment 1- first 4 weeks; Segment 2-Social Studies last 4 1/2 weeks 12:18-12:48 Lunch 12:55-1:15 Recess 1:20-2:50 2ndSegment 2:50 go to homeroom for dismissal Mrs. Stephenson's Webpage

  3. Writing Homeroom All 5th grade teachers will be teaching their homeroom students writing this year. As part of the GPS standards, children must demonstrate proficiency in three genres of writing: *Narrative *Opinion *Expository/informational Students will take the GA 5th Grade State Writing Assessment in March.

Horizons/Advanced Content 5th Grade Teachers… • Stephanie Stephenson-ELA & Social Studies • Rhonda McWhorter-Math & Science • Stephanie Bruhl-ELA & Math *I will be teaching advanced content ELA/Reading to both Horizons and high achieving reading students. *The 5th grade Horizons/advanced content teachers will be collaborating together to develop similar lesson plans which follow our county 5th grade curriculum maps.

What will we be doing differently? • novel studies • choice boards • technology applications • creative projects & assignments based on multiple intelligence learning styles • Spelling/vocab/grammar: • Extended with current novel studies • Mini lessons such as DOLs • Grammar is taught throughout the curriculum

  7. Grading We will be using county formatives and summatives. Students will be allowed to retest on one summative per quarter. Students will need to complete a retest ticket to retest.

  8. Social Studies Social Studies & Science will alternate every 4 1/2 weeks. ELA teachers will teach Social Studies. Math Teachers will teach Science • Fifth Graders will continue studying the history of the United States beginning with the Civil War & culminating with the present. • Concepts in Geography, Economics & Government will be embedded in our study of American History. • Grading- Assessments will come from daily work, tests, quizzes, group work, & in class projects.
