Parent NewsletterRowling High School10th Grade English Language Arts 2012-2013 Important Information Teacher: Ms. Mayer Phone: 863-588-2012 ext. 2400 mmayer@ocps.net Goal and Objective: It is my goal that our tenth grade English Language Arts classroom will have a climate that promotes learning and fosters supporting, respectful relationships among its students. While it is my responsibility and pleasure to teach your children language arts content, it is also my priority to teach them to be independent thinkers with upstanding moral character. Now put the foundations under them.” –Henry David Thoreau • What the Class is Working on Now • Current Unit:Medieval Literature • eStudy Guide for Students located at: • http://eng10ms-mayer.wikispaces.com/Start+Here%2C+Content+Analysis • Current Focus: Sir Gawain & The Green Knight • Activities Include: • Pre-Reading Anticipation Guide • Phonemic Analysis (Looking at stressed and unstressed syllables of words) • Phonics Usage (Spelling Conventions that are right most of the time) • Strategies to Learn Vocabulary (Morphemic Analysis, Graphic Organizers, Digital Stories) • The Study of Question-Answer Relationships • After Reading Activities for Sir Gawain & the Green Knight (Includes an essay and two other project options.) How You can get Involved We will have a Parent Night on May 4th, in which you can view all the student work completed by the class. Projects will be shown, and your children’s work portfolio’s will be made available to you.
