  1. Rendered New Review 8thGrade Language Arts

  2. What does it mean to be rendered new? Rendered = to cause or to become; to produce a copy New = modern, present day, current, updated Therefore… Rendered New = to become modern

  3. How can you render something new? Take something traditional: *traditional does not have to mean old! In this sense, it means what you would typically think of when that object/person/place etc. comes to mind 1956 Corvette - a classic car, standard doors, frame, windows, wheels and so on. When you think of a corvette, you might think of something that looks like this.

  4. How can you render something new? And add a modern twist! 2013 Corvette Although this is a corvette, like the 1956 one previously shown, it has been updated to be “more modern”. Identify ways this car has been rendered new. If something is rendered new, it has the basic design or concept as the traditional version, but it has been updated

  5. More Rendered New Examples: Name this traditional movie How has it been rendered new?

  6. More Rendered New Examples: Think of what the comic book hero Spiderman looks like…. How is this Spiderman more modern? Did something similar to this come to mind?

  7. She runs for president! She represents working women from all races and backgrounds Barbie is no longer just a pretty blonde! Why has Barbie’s traditional image of image of being a pretty, skinny, proper young lady been rendered new to be more powerful and independent?

  8. Anything can be rendered new… • Characters • Themes • Movies • Books • Fairytales • Pattern of Events

  9. Can you think of any other people, places, events, movies, books, characters stories, etc. that have been rendered new? How have they been rendered new?
