  • Read the article from the BBC History website about the abolitionist, William Wilberforce. Highlight in green any evidence you find which explains why he was so successful in campaigning against slavery.

  • Give 3 reasons, based on your knowledge & the article, why you think it took so long to pass a law ending slavery

  • Extension: what evidence could you use to show Wilberforce’s weaknesses as a campaigner?

  • Watch the film Amazing Grace. How true is it to the life of Wilberforce you have read? Write down 5 examples where you think the film may exaggerate the truth for dramatic effect.
