This is your most important course • Math 0097 & 0099 are ROADBLOCKS. • Example: You cannot enroll in Anatomy & Physiology until you “exit” from Math 0099. • And that in turn can delay your acceptance into the Nursing program, for example. • And many programs only have Fall entry, so the delay can turn into 1 whole year, 2 whole years. • Similar situations happen if you are planning a major in business or education or whatever. This is your most important course • So you want to do it right on the first try. • GOAL: Get this course out of the way! • That gets you to where you really want to be, in the courses for your major program. • You’re stuck - you can’t drop this courseunless you drop credit courses like Psychology, Government, Public Speaking, etc., first.   4. This is your most important course Here’s the Recipe For Success: • Attend every class and make the time count. • And about 3-4 HOURS of OUTSIDE WORK TIMEevery week, too. Ten Mini-Courses at Your Own Pace • Modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (Link to The Road Map) • Good news – it’s somewhat SELF-PACED • INDIVIDUALIZED just for you. • When life hits the pause button, so does this course. • It bends, but it will break if you bend it too far.   7. Or Three Semesters (CO$TLY!) • No “homework” time outside of class? Lots of absences? Probably THREE semesters • About $500 for an extra course + $xx,000 missed salary opportunities due to delayed graduation. • Risky – no room for error on third attempt If you don’t finish in three attempts, the College puts you on a one-year suspension. Or One Semester ($AVING$) • Work ahead as much as you want! • You can finish in one semester • Good if you’re motivated and ambitious • And your circumstances and ability permit it • You save about $500 for an extra course + you could graduate earlier and earn the big money earlier. Scheduling – CUSTOMIZED for you • Your Flight Plan – the semester, overall (link) • You’ll choose an initial Flight Plan in “The Maze” • Your Day-by-Day current module schedule(link) • You have a “standard” one. • But if you work faster or slower, we’ll build a new one. • Keep these two items in front of your notebook. • Re-do them if you work ahead or fall behind.   11. You can Fast-Forward • If you believe you can “Fast-Forward” past an entire module, visit with the instructor. There’s a way to “test out of a module”. • If you believe you can “Fast-Forward” all the way to the end of Math 0097 or 0099, visit with the instructor. There’s a way to “test out of the course”.   13. Your MyLab Login – A.S.A.P.!!! • Follow instructions in “The Maze”. Carefully ! • If you sign up for the free temporary access, you will have to buy permanent access soon. Use your current module’s course ID when you do the conversion to permanent access. ASK FOR HELP if you need it. Don’t lock yourself out!!! • If you use a credit card to purchase it here at a lab computer, go to Library or Lab 203 to do it, because this lab’s computers have restrictions. Where should I sit? • If you might need a lot of help from the instructor, try to choose an aisle seat so it’s easier to visit with you. • EXAMINEES may be required to temporarily move to a particular workstation.   15. What happens during class time? • Doing problems in MyMathLab with help from instructor as needed. (Videos, too. Bring earbuds or click CC, Closed Caption.) • Taking Exams when you’re ready.   17. When is class time? • Be on time. Promptly. One second late means less than full credit for attendance. • Break time is at a set time. Optional. • Stay until the end. When is the end?   18. When is class time? • Only the standard scheduled class meeting time counts toward attendance. There’s no “comp time” to make up for time missed. • Your attendance data will be posted in GeorgiaVIEW online gradebook so you know where you stand.
