  1. Physical Fitness Jeopardy! Designed by Nate Ramezane 7th Grade PE MAT 672 Professor Vellanoweth

  2. There are 12 Questions • Extremely Difficult Questions are worth 300 points • Difficult Questions are worth 200 points • Somewhat Difficult Questions are worth 100 points • Questions are broken down into the following 4 topics…

  3. Fitness Jeopardy Topics • Body Composition • Flexibility • Muscular Strength vs Muscular Endurance • Principles of Exercise • 3 Questions per topic are available for Answer

  4. Rules • A rock, paper, scissors duel will determine who starts the match. • From that point on whoever answers the question correct, in the shortest amount of time will take control of the board. • In the event there is no correct answer the previous individual in control of the board will resume selecting a question. • After every question has been attempted there will be a final Jeopardy Question where you can wager point totals from 0-all of your points

  5. Special User Instructions • Use the slide sorter view when not displaying a question so that you can be sure not to show the answer slide until directed to do so. • The slides are in order from the 300 point question of a topic until the 100 point question and the topics are in the order designated on slide 3

  7. Body Composition 300 Q • What are the methods available to determine body fat? Does a scale help you to determine your body fat? Why or why not?

  8. Body Composition 300 Answer • The most accurate way to determine body fat is underwater weighing. In this method, a person is placed on a scale and submersed in water. Calipers, taking skin fold measurements, provides another fairly accurate way to determine body fat. Near-infrared light technology is yet another way to measure body fat. Hand held devices and scales designed to measure body fat currently have a large margin of error. • The scale is not one of them. Scales give total weight, not percent body fat, and can’t determine if that is healthy for you.

  9. Body Composition 200 Q • Describe three critical roles fat plays in our health…

  10. Body Composition 200 Answer • First, fat insulates the body and helps keep it at approximately 98.6 degrees. Second, it is used as a source of energy and storage for energy. Finally, it protects and cushions vital organs. Having too much or too little body fat can lead to serious health problems.

  11. Body Composition 100 Question • 1. What exactly is body composition?

  12. Body Composition 100 Answer • Body composition is the ratio of fat to non-fat tissue in the body.

  13. Flexibility for 300 Q • What type of stretching can safely improve flexibility? How long should you hold this stretch?

  14. Flexibility for 300 Answer • Static stretching can safely improve flexibility. The process involves slowly moving the muscle to its stretching point and holding this position for 15 to 30 seconds.

  15. Flexibility for 200 Q • What are the benefits of flexibility? Explain.

  16. Flexibility for 200 Answer • Flexibility reduces injuries, prevents post exercise pain, and helps relieve emotional tension

  17. Flexibility 100 Question • What is Flexibility?

  18. Flexibility 100 Answer • Flexibility is the ability to move body joints through a full range of motion.

  19. Muscular Strength v Muscular Endurance for 300 Question • List the 3 exercises that help build Muscular Strength and Endurance:

  20. Muscular Strength v Muscular Endurance for 300 Answer • Exercises such as push-ups, leg raises, and curl-ups build muscular endurance and strength.

  21. Muscular Strength v Muscular Endurance for 200 Question What is Muscular Strength?

  22. Muscular Strength v Muscular Endurance for 200 Answer • Muscular strength is the ability of a muscle group to apply a maximal force against a resistance one time.

  23. Muscular Strength v Muscular Endurance Question for 100 • What is Muscular Endurance?

  24. Muscular Strengths v Muscular Endurance for 100 Answer • Muscular endurance is the ability to repeat a muscle movement over a period of time.

  25. Principles of Exercise for 300 Q • Why must one use a sound exercise program when working on fitness?

  26. Principles of Exercise for 300 Answer • You must exercise correctly in order to benefit from exercise. A sound exercise program is built on three basic principles: overload, progression, and specificity.

  27. Principles of Exercise for 200 Question • What is the Principle of Specificity?

  28. Principles of Exercise for 200 Answer • States that you must do specific activities to build specific parts of fitness. • Examples: • an exercise to improve strength may not improve flexibility or agility. • stretching your legs will not increase flexibility in your arms.

  29. Principles of Exercise for 100 Q • What is the Principle of Progression?

  30. Principles of Exercise for 100 Answer • - You must increase exercise gradually. After a while, your body will adapt to your exercise (load) so that your exercise is too easy. When this happens, increase your exercise slightly to improve your fitness and prevent injuries

  31. Regular Jeopardy is complete • Final Jeopardy will be one question on the topic of…. • Cardiovascular Fitness

  32. Final Jeopardy • Make your wagers bring them up to the teacher • You will have 2 minutes to answer this question to the best of your ability, make sure it is detailed and specific.

  33. Final Jeopardy Question • 1. What exactly is cardiovascular fitness? And what body systems does it apply too?

  34. Cardiovascular Fitness • Cardiovascular fitness is the body’s ability to continuously provide oxygen to the muscles while exercise is being performed over a long period of time. Cardiovascular fitness includes the circulatory system and the respiratory system. The circulatory system includes the heart, blood, and blood vessels. The respiratory system includes the lungs and air passages. Both systems will improve drastically with exercise; however, both systems will also become less efficient with lack of exercise or laziness.
