  6. Revisit Conley’s Principle # 5 from College & Career Ready, 2010 • Create assignments & grading policies that more closely approximate college expectations each successive year of high school.

  7. Setting the Context forAssessing Academic Rigor in a CBSchools • We will examine selected documents on display in a CBSchool that are: • representative of a 10th Grade Earth Science assignment • designed by a teacher new to the school with 3 or 4 years of experience

Assessing Academic Rigor in a CBSchool • Review: • the task titled “The Continent Project” & the rubric • the student’s response • Working in pairs: • How would you rate the student’s response to this assignment? • Determine why or why not the task is rigorous. • What would it take to make this assignment rigorous? • Report Out

What would you say to the Principal about this assignment as an artifact of rigor? • Individually identify 2 thoughts you’d like to convey. • Work with a partner and present your thoughts to each other • Group up with another pair, share and come up with a description of how you would approach this Principal as a critical friend. • Deconstruct the conversation & Debrief

  11. CB Schools Graduation Data • Metis Associates assisted us with calculating 2008 and 2009 graduation rates for our schools • Three different graduation rates were calculated: • Status Graduation Rate • School Cohort Graduation Rate • Four-Year Cohort Graduation Rate

  12. CB Schools Graduation Data (cont.) 1 Graduates include those who receive a local, regents or advance regents diploma, including August graduates. 2 Graduates include all of those in note 1, as well as those students receiving an IEP diploma.
