  3. Definition of Apprenticeship…. Registered Apprenticeship is a national training system that combines paid learning on-the-job and job related technical and theoretical education in a skilled occupation. The purpose of a Registered Apprenticeship program is to enable employers to develop and apply broad industry standards to a customized training plan that increases productivity and improves the quality of their workforce.

Core Components of Registered Apprenticeship The Employer is the foundation for the RA program and must be directly involved Employer Involvement Is Essential Minimum of 2,000 hours Structured and Supervised Structured, Paid On-the-Job Learning Related Technical Instruction 144 hours recommended per year Increases in skills brings about increases in earnings Rewards for Skill Gains Nationally recognized credential showing job proficiency. The Industry certifies individual is at the full performance level for the occupation National Occupational Credential

Apprenticeship is a flexible, customized, and proven model for building your workforce • Apprenticeship Is a Job • Industry • Drives the Program • Instructional Component • Apprenticeship is a job with a paid work component and wage progression Employers take the lead for apprenticeship programs by apprentice selection, curriculum design, and program operation. Apprenticeship has an educational / training component which can include technical colleges, a training provider or the company

  6. Registered Apprenticeship are Flexible and can be Mixed-and-Matched for Business Solutions Traditional RA One-Year RA Pre-Apprenticeship to RA Front-Load RA

Pre-Apprenticeship Pre-Apprenticeships are designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in Registered Apprenticeship programs Pre-Apprenticeship programs are not certified by USDOL, but all programs must: • Have a documented partnership with at least one RA sponsor • Must expand the participant’s career pathway opportunities with industry-based training coupled with classroom instruction

Pre-apprenticeship to Registered Apprenticeship Direct Entry Model Quality Pre-Apprenticeship Programs have a partnership with an RA program to ensure direct entry with advanced credit upon completion of the pre-apprenticeship. Related Training and Instruction Related Training and Instruction Pre-apprenticeship Program Reward Skill Gains Reward Skill Gains Prior to Entry Year 2 Year 1 RI and/or OJL credit can be applied to RA program Structured OJL with Mentoring Structured OJL with Mentoring Industry Credential Issued by US DOL 2,000 hours 2,000 hours

Key Roles Within Registered Apprenticeships • Sponsors (Administrators) • Responsible for Administering the Program • Can be Employer, Consortia of Employers, Industry Associations, Educational or Training Providers, Community Based Organizations, or Other Workforce Intermediaries! • Employers (OJL) • Must have employer(s) • Must Drive Program Design /RI • Provider of OJL/Work-Based Learning • Supportive Services • Can bring together a range of other entities to complement program design and to support apprentices and industry partners. • Educational (RTI) Provider • Can be employer/industry based • Community Colleges • Others
