  7. Membership Update • Membership Join and Renewal functions on the IIBA National website will not be available from Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 6 p.m. EST until Monday, December 15, 2008 at 6 p.m. EST

  8. Online Application Update • Online CBAP application was slated for December, 2008 • Now expected to be up and running by February, 2009

  9. Preparing the Application • Begin the application at least 2 months before you plan to apply • It can take anywhere from 6-10 hours to complete • Download and review the CBAP Handbook before you begin • Suggest you apply within 6 months of when you plan to write

  10. Application Process • Can take up to 30 days to receive approval and your candidate ID • Must book (and pay for) the exam within 60 days of when you will write • Must sign and submit the “Code of Professional Conduct”

  11. Exam Payment Process • Send in application (paper) with cheque for application fee ($125 + GST, in US funds) • Send in exam fee separately once approved (IIBA members: $325 + GST, in US funds) • Alternatively, you can pay for both at once if you know where you will be writing the exam when you apply (for CBT, there is a slightly different scheduling process)

  12. CBAP Application Requirements • 21 hours of professional development in the last four years • Show expertise in 4 of 6 KAs • 2 career references (or other CBAP) • 7,500 hours of BA-related work in the last ten years

  15. Career References • Must have known you for at least 2 years • Can be another CBAP • Attest to your professional capability (must have worked with you or supervised you) • Project Managers not preferred as references • Blind feedback process (sealed, signed and delivered)

  16. Required Experience • Resumes will NOT be accepted • Must be listed by project • 7,500 hours of BA-related work in the last 10 years • Activities where you apply, or directly help others apply, the BABOK knowledge areas

Example Activities • Hands-on tasks (e.g. requirements gathering, requirements documentation) • Coaching or mentoring of BAs in BA activities (e.g. planning requirements gathering, reviewing requirements documents) • Development of an organization’s BA methodology and/or best practices • Development of BA training materials

  23. Project Hours Example • Project that did not include testing time: • I was on the project full-time • 6 months = 126 days @ 6 hours per day = 756 total project hours • Assume 15-20% of activities are non-BA (e.g. status reporting) • Total possible BA hours = approx. 600

  24. Project Hours Example • Project that included testing time: • I was on the project full-time as a consultant • 14 months = 294 days @ 8 hours per day = 2352 total project hours • 3 months of testing = 63 days @ 8 hours per day = 504 non-BA hours • Total possible BA hours = approx. 1800

  25. Experience Examples • Requirements Communication: • Manage/negotiate requirements expectations, conflicts & communication • Determine the best requirements format • Create requirements presentation/ package • Conduct requirements walkthroughs • Obtain requirements sign-off

  26. Experience Examples • Solution Assessment & Validation: • Review proposed business data model to ensure requirements are met • Review and evaluate alternate design solutions (and technologies) • Ensure the usability of the solution • Support the QA process • Conduct post-phase retrospectives

  27. Application Hints • If you claim “frequently”, ensure you show at least 11 examples • Match your deliverables to the BABOK • Use similar terminology as used in the BABOK (e.g. elicitation) • Eliminate any ambiguity in your descriptions (be clear, concise, and consistent)
