  2. Avarice--noun • Greed; desire for wealth • He was ruined by his avarice ; he wanted so much, that in the end he was bankrupt and alone.

  3. Furtive--adjective • Stealthy; secretive; sly • The girls tried to be furtive as they gawked at the attractive new CEO.

  4. Audacity--noun • Boldness; temerity; arrogant disregard of restraints; rashness; daring • I can’t believe you had the audacity to talk to your mother that way!

  5. Advocate—noun OR verb • Speak in favor of; support of • Or as a noun: a person who speaks or writes in support or defense of a person, cause; etc. • I will be your advocate during the trial, so don’t worry. • I’m going to advocate that • the judge gives you a lighter sentence.

  6. COPIOUS-adj Plentiful; numerous; large in quantity • I will buy a copious amount of candy for Halloween.

  7. Irascible--adj • Easily angered • He is so irascible, we try not to bother him.

  8. Posthumous -adj • Arising; occurring, or continuing after one’s death • Michael Jackson apparently earned more money posthumously than he had in the past several years.

  9. Dissuade-verb • To advise against something • How can I dissuade you to pick another major in college? The one you’ve chosen will never lead to a decent job.

  10. Vacillate--verb • To fluctuate; hesitate; waver in mind or opinion • She vacillates between wanting to go to college and wanting to go to beauty school.

  11. Ostracize-verb • To banish; to shut out from a group by common consent • Some girls in high school seem to take delight in ostracizing other girls, probably due to their own insecurities.
