Insecure Loads Can Kill • Each year motorist are killed by insecure objects carried on or within vehicles, or • Object which fall from a vehicle. • Items like timber, signs, steel bars, pipes, eskies and water bottles ,or • They are hit by any object from within their own vehicle (laptops, fridges etc).

  3. A Responsible Person Will CHECK; • That everything in or on your vehicle is secure. ASK YOURSELF • Can the item fly out as I driver along? • If I crash, will the item become a projectile? If Yes to either of these SECURE IT • Will the load cause the vehicle to be unstable? If Yes MOVE IT

  4. Even large loads can come off!

  6. Because it is in the back of the ute, doesn’t mean it is safe!

  7. Loading Requirements Is Your load within Limits?

  8. Load Projection Limits

  9. Load Projection Limits NOTE; - Applies to Rigid Trucks and UtilitiesTotal Length ‘L’ No more than 12.5 m Rear overhang ‘R’ No more than 3.7 m or no more than 60% of W, which ever is the less. Distance load can project from front ‘PH’ No more than 1.2 m in front of head lights Distance load can project from rear ‘PR’ No more than 1.2 m without a flag.

  10. OR 60% R Rear overhang ‘R’ No more than 3.7 m or no more than 60% of wheel base, which ever is the LESS.

  11. ALWAYS • Make sure your load is secure. • Make sure your load is within Projection Limits, and • Your Load does not cause your vehicle to become unstable.

  12. REMEMBER A LIFE MAY DEPEND ON WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR LOAD. IT COULD BE YOUR OWN !
