  2. Objective: • PO: I can write a formal business letter. • Essential Questions: • 1. What are the differences between a friendly and business letter? • 2. How do you know which format is appropriate?

  3. Assignment • Last year you wrote to Mr. Bonner about something that you wanted to change in the school. • You used your power of persuasion to convince him of items that you wanted changed.

  4. This time….. • You are going to write to someone about a topic that you are passionate about. • You get to choose your person/company and your topic.

  5. For example • Dear Mr. President: • I am writing to tell you about…. • Dear Governor Brewer: • Dear Superintendent:

  6. Possible Topics • Facebook and Younger Students • Lowering the voting age • Lowering the driving age • Texting while driving • Expanding the School Year • Needing more technology in our schools Think of an issue that you are passionate about!

  7. However….. • This is a persuasion business letter • So you must include the following: • Proper Formatting • Thesis – Take a stance • Choose a propaganda technique – be ready to explain what your technique is. • Include an argument – Three good reasons (remember that opinions are not facts!) (This should be 5 paragraphs.) • You need to know who you are writing to and an address to write to!
