  4. Just Added DADDS Operational Notices RSS Feed https://dcs1.noaa.gov Technicians Can update 24 hours a day Users can “subscribe” Please give it a try and let us know what you think Once we work out the “bugs” we will look at using other places, like Meeting Announcements NOAA GOES DCS

  5. DOMSAT Status • Final Option of DOMSAT contract almost ending • New Combined Contract expected award early summer • 2012 funded by NOS, USGS, BLM, BR and USACE • MOU’s set up for BR, amended for BLM and USACE • USGS made “quid pro quo” arrangement with NOS • NOS funds directly tapped through procurement documents (means no MOU required) • 2012 Funding Shortfall • NOAA/NESDIS Contributed $20k+ for year • If STIWG can not raise funds, next option year may not be exercised • STIWG to take to parent committee NOAA GOES DCS

  6. Operational Activities Major activities NSOF DADDS Power Distribution Units (PDU) Upgrade Completely Redundant Power throughout system Implementation of CS2 Transition Multiple Manufacturers Certified for CS2 All Channels set to “Long Interleaver Off” to recognize CS2 Do not use Long Interleaver Equipment Move at Wallops Tentatively Scheduled for July (?) Construction at Wallops for Extended Period DOMSAT Outages in April Problems with Equipment from SES World Skies First Time too brief for failover to NSOF 2nd Time Failover to NSOF Failed SES World Skies Made Service Visits to Both Sites…repaired? NOAA GOES DCS

  7. GOES 15 Outage March 21, 2012 Approximately 4 p.m. Apparently Corrupted Navigation File Sent During Maneuver Caused Satellite to go into “sun acquisition” mode (face the sun) Satellite Went into “Safe” Mode to Protect Itself Exactly what it should do!! New Commands Sent on March 22, 2012 Operation Failed Satellite Placed back in “Storage” Mode for fresh startup (“Cold” Boot) March 23, 2012 Brought Back out of “Storage” Mode Operators Noticed Attempt to go back into “Safe” Mode and Manually Overrode Navigation File Satellite Safely Brought Back Online Engineers Investigated and Repaired Software Glitch NOAA GOES DCS

  8. GOES 15 Outage DCS System Switched so that GOES East Antennae Picked up GOES West Channels Approximately 60% of GOES West Data Picked up by GOES East Lock Level on Satellite Decreased to 25 Acquisition Percentage Increased to 70% Led to Lowering Lock Level to 25 at both sites permanently Question: Should we recommend all users offset angle whenever possible to attempt to reach both satellites?
