  2. In the process of enrolling students, the biggest challenge can be handling the parents. An advisor who forgets to factor them into the conversation… will lose.

  3. Handled properly – parents can be a powerful ally. Handled poorly – they can become the gorilla in the room that guides your prospect to a different school.

  4. Parents may have a profound influence on their child’s choice of college. • strongopinionsclosedminds • controlof funding • How you involve them in the admissions process is of vital importance.

  5. Some students have earned their parents’ respect to make important choices for themselves… • Many have not. • an advisor who cannot discern the difference is doomed.

  6. Both prospects and parents ultimately • want the same things… • But may see very different priorities in getting there.

  7. Understanding how parents factor into the admissions equation determines if they become: friend or foe Adept parent management may determine the difference between a shopperand a student.

  8. The Parent Factor is available as a stand-alone 3-hour seminar or can be incorporated as a 3-hour segment of a larger scope training program. Seminar groups should be no larger than 20-25 participants for optimum interaction. All university admissions representatives who interact with potential students, especially those who will meet with families face-to-face can benefit from this training. Enrolled students may be your holy grail, but parents can be formidable guardians to their treasure unless properly handled. Can you really afford to be ill prepared?
