  1. The X Factor by Jessica Lynch and Rebecca Ellard

  2. Introduction to The X Factor The X Factor is a UK singing competition which has been broadcast yearly since 2004.It was created by Simon Cowell, who was also a judge on show until 2010.Members of the public from across the country audition for the show. During series 6 a record 200,000 people applied. There are 5 stages to the competition: producers auditions, judges auditions, bootcamp, judges house and the live shows. The X Factor is one of ITV1’s most popular shows.

  3. Primary Research I surveyed 14 students in my class to find out their opinion of The X Factor:21% of people enjoyed the show, rating it 9/10 out of 10!The other 79% only gave the show a rating between 1-5.50% of students voted Simon Cowell as their favourite judge. The majority of students I surveyed were 16 year old males, who generally don’t enjoy reality TV singing contests.

  4. Secondary Research Results • From my findings I can say that in each series, they always start the programme over the summer. As it’s the holidays, this is the time when people will be home and it’s probably been done so that they get more viewers. • All of the series finish in December. Again, I think this is another ploy to get the viewers in because people are more likely to stay at home as it is winter. It has also been on every year since the first air date.

  5. Typical Audience Member • The audience of X Factor are most likely to be young adults, students, lower and middle class, or unemployed. • Appeals to either males or females. Although some performances and celebrity guests are aimed at males in particular. • It is liked by any ethnicity as there are contestants from different backgrounds or cultures. • Aimed at any sexual orientation. • It is considered a show for families.
