Glossary • NIGB = National Information Governance Board • “role of the NIGB is to support improvements to information governance practice in health and social care” • ECC = Ethics & Confidentiality Committee • “Section 251 of the NHS Act 2006, allows the common law duty of confidentiality to be set aside in specific circumstances where anonymised information is not sufficient and where patient consent is not practicable.” • HES = Hospital Episode Statistics • TTP = Trusted Third Party • TDLS = Trusted Data Linkage Service • MRIS = Medical Research Information Service
