  1. Teacher Student Linkage Data (TSLD) September 24, 2012 K-12 Faculty Meeting

  2. What is the TSDL Report? • The Teacher Student Data Linkage Report is a report that matches each student to the teacher who teaches them for a given school year, and identifies the subjects taught by each teacher. • The students you see on your TSDL report should be the same students that you see on your School Tool class rosters each day. • The classes that you teach should each be listed with a class roster for each. • This report is used to calculate student growth for the year, and is factored into the teacher’s composite score.

  3. How do I Access my TSDL Data? • Teachers are the only individuals who may access the TSDL Portal, and each teacher has his/her own access code and ID to do so. • In October, you will receive a letter that gives you your PIN number.

  4. How do I Access my TSDL Data? • Teachers should log into the teacher portal: http://edp.nysed.gov to create an account. You will need your PIN, last 4 digits of their Social Security Number and their Date of Birth. • When you receive the confirmation email, click on the link to complete the registration process. • Once you have done this, log in and review your full Year report and report any discrepancies.

  5. What do I do if there are errors in my data? • A folder will be kept in Maura’s office to document any changes that need to be made with your TSDL data. • Print your roster from the website along with your TSDL form, and mark the changes that need to be made on your student roster. Give these two items to Maura.

  6. What do I do if there are errors in my data? • Data changes are made once a week, and it takes four weeks for the State to recognize the changes were made. • Check your data every 6-8 weeks to ensure the corrections have been made and cleared to the state level. • Process should be repeated until all changes are registered. (It takes 6-8 weeks for changes to register on the TSDL site). • You are responsible for making sure your data is correct.

  7. Attendance and Data Linkage • Every class you teach should have a class roster in school tool. • If a student attends less than 50% of your class on a given day, mark them as absent with the following reasons: • If the student is at band lessons, mark them Absent Band. • If the student is at the nurse, mark them Absent Nurse. • If the student is at the Office, mark them Absent Office. • If the student is at an assembly or field trip, mark them as absent for these reasons. • If a student is in your classroom for at least half of your class, mark them as present.

  8. Changes to School Tool • Classroom Teachers – • If there is a special education or AIS teacher pushing into your classroom, they may be listed on your class roster as a second teacher for the classroom. • Only 1 person will take attendance for this class, even if two teachers are listed. • Elementary Scheduling- • All teachers must have ELA scheduled for 90 minutes daily (or an average of 90 minutes a day over the course of a week), as well as math instruction daily. • AIS needs to be scheduled IN ADDITION TO the core instruction (the 90 minutes of ELA, and the core math instruction). • Schedules are being completed now in school tool.

  9. Common Data Errors to Look For • 1. Ensure each course you teach is listed- check for all sections of all courses. • 2. Ensure students names are not found on the rosters of classes they do not attend. • 3. Elementary teachers – if you do not teach ELA or math or science or social studies, please ensure you are not listed as the teacher for these subjects in your TSDL data. • 4. If a student has moved or never entered your class, it may take the TSDL site 6-8 weeks to register this change. Note that the student did not attend or when the student dropped, and log on again in 6-8 weeks to confirm the change was entered.

  10. Teacher Resources • A step by step narrated video that reviews how to log in and check your class data may be found at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/irs/teacher/videopage.html • A User Guide may be found at • http://www.p12/nysed.gov/irs/teacher/userguid.pdf • Questions?
