  1. Motivation “I’m Just not in the mood”

  2. Learning Targets • I will learn about different approaches to thinking about motivations. • I will discover the definition of motivation. • I will hear about tips on how to keep myself motivated.

  3. What do you think when you hear the word motivation?

  4. Ways to think about Motivation • One way is to use the terms… • Self-discipline • Willpower • Motivation • We use these terms to describe something missing in ourselves.

  5. Ways to think about Motivation • A second approach to thinking about motivation is to stop assuming! • Motivation: The ability to do a task even when you don’t feel like it. • Motivation can be a habit that you can develop with practice!

  6. Tips to develop motivation habits! • Promise it: • Motivation can come simply from being clear about your goals and acting on them. Just make a promise and keep your word to stay motivated. • Befriend your discomfort: • When we want to avoid a task, that task can lead to discomfort. To avoid procrastination acknowledge your discomfort.

  7. Tips to develop motivation habits! • Observe what’s happening with you body: • Your body might show physical signs of discomfort. Accepting the discomfort thoughts and the body sensations robs them of power. • Change your mind—and your body: • If acknowledging that you areuncomfortable isn’t working, try plantingnew thoughts in your mind or changingyour physical stance.

  8. Tips to develop motivation habits! • Sweeten the task: • Sometimes it is one part of the task that is holding you back. To stop procrastinating just change that aspect. • Talk about how bad it is: • One way to get past negative attitudes is to take them to an extreme. Complaining and griping taken to a ridiculous level can restore perspective.
