  2. Registration Information:1. To enroll in any 4-H Summer Fun Program/Class you must fill out the attached registration form, a 4-H Enrollment form, and a notarized 4-H medical release form. You should also review the 4-H Code of Conduct with your child(ren) so they can be aware of those behavior guidelines. These forms may be found online at http://www.nc4h.org/procedures_and_guidelines/index.html or obtained from the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office during normal business hours; 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday-Friday.2. Registration will begin at Open House on May 24th at 5:00 pm and will be accepted in person ONLY. NO mail, phone, or e-mail registrations will be allowed. If you are coming in to fill out paperwork and register for events, expect to spend approximately 20 minutes at the office.3. Payment for programs is required at the time of registration and can be paid with cash or check (made payable to Franklin County 4-H). Payment must be made in full for all day camp events at the time of registration. For residential camp and Congress, payments may be made in installments as determined by the 4-H Agent.4. Please review the information on each program that you sign up for carefully, including the stated age ranges and times. You are responsible for ensuring that your child(ren) arrive and are picked up on time for each program. If you are more than 15 minutes late for any field trip program, you will be left!5. Unless otherwise stated classes will meet at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Annex and youth should wear clothing that is comfortable for lots of movement and can get dirty! Snacks and bottled water will be provided for all programs. 6.. We reserve the right to suspend your child from the program without refund should he/she become disruptive or violate the 4-H Code of Conduct in any way. If a child must be dismissed from the program then the parent/guardian will be called to pick up the child immediately.7. No refunds will be given for Sizzling Summer Session program except in the event of a cancellation by our office. All refunds will be processed at the conclusion of the entire summer program in August. Please allow 4 weeks from that time for a check to be requested from the County Finance Department.8. Sizzling Summer Sessions 2012 4-H County Presentations Date: Thursday, May 31st Time: 5:00-7:00 pm Ages: 5-18 Location: Franklin County Cooperative Extension Annex Cost: FREE Spaces Available: Open to all youth 5-18 Description: Presentation Practice to prepare for District Activity Day on June 19th. All participants must register by June 3rd. Be Your Own Van Gogh! Date: Thursday, June 14th Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Ages: 10 and up Location: Meet at Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office Cost: $15 (bring bag lunch, snacks and bottled water will be provided) Spaces Available: 13 Description: Soak up some culture and unleash your inner artist with this fun and interactive day camp! In the morning we will visit the NC Museum of Art and tour the collections there to see the wide variety of paintings, sculpture, and other mediums that are available. Afterwards we will have lunch in the Museum Park and then travel to the Wake Forest Paint Party Studio to create our very own masterpieces! The studio staff will have easels and canvas set up and each youth will be guided step by step through creating a reproduction of a Peacock to take home! Cast A Line Date: Monday, June 18th Time: 9:00 am – 12 Noon Ages: 7 and up Location: Meet at Franklin County Extension Office Cost: FREE Spaces: 12 Description: Participants will learn how to fish or enhance their fishing skills, PLUS safety techniques, types of fish and have fun. Please wear closed toe shoes. Bring sunscreen. Snacks and water will be provided!

  4. 4-H District Activity Day Date: Tuesday, June 19th- All Day Ages: 5-18 Location: Meet at Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office-Contest in Granville County Cost: FREE-Bring money for lunch or a bag lunch Description: Public speaking is a very important skill for youth to develop at an early age in order to ensure success later in life. Participation in 4-H District Activity Day in the Presentation program can help youth develop these skills and give them the opportunity to win awards and scholarship money for other 4-H Events. Those who choose not to present are welcome to attend as a spectator. Note: To attend this event as a participant, you must also participate in the Franklin County Contest on May 31st. Contact the 4-H Office for more information. Tandy Leather Workshop Date: Wednesday, June 20th Time: 9:00 am- 12 Noon Ages: 5 and up Location: Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office Cost: $10 Spaces Available: 20 Description: Learn how to work and design a leather wristband, make a leather journal kit, and a travel Tic-Tac-Toe Pouch Kit. All three activities will be for you to take home and you can personally design your own leather. NC Zoo Snooze! Date: 3:00 pm Thursday, June 21st –4:00 pm Friday, June 22nd Ages: 8 and up Location: Meet at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office Cost: $35 Spaces Available: 12 youth Description: Join Franklin and Warren County 4-H on a Safari to the NC Zoological Park outside of Asheboro, NC. Go batty over creatures of the night! Explore skills and senses of nocturnal animals in this fun and exciting program. Concentrating on bats and owls, we’ll shed some light on the mystery of what’s really going ‘bump in the night’. Through presentations and activities, participants will develop a greater understanding of our nighttime neighbors, their roles in our environment and how we can help them. Students will have a blast building bat boxes and a hoot dissecting owl pellets. In the morning we will have breakfast and explore the zoo before returning home! The registration fee covers transportation, zoo admission, evening snacks, and breakfast at the zoo. Participants should bring additional money for Dinner on the way there/lunch on the way home and souvenirs or snacks if they wish! What to bring: comfortable closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops!), water bottle, sleeping bag, pillow, sleepwear, hand towel and washcloth (NO shower facilities available), toothpaste and toothbrush, personal items, and medications. Optional: camera, small backpack or waist-pack, sunscreen and bug spray. Take Me Out to the Ballgame! Date: Monday, June 25th Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm Ages: 8 and up Location: Meet at Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office Cost: $15 Spaces Available: 13 youth Description: What could be more fun than a day at the Ballpark?! Come and join Franklin County 4-H for a trip to a Durham Bulls baseball game. Cost includes transportation, ticket, and a box lunch at the ballpark. Youth may want to bring extra money for additional snacks/souvenirs.

Little Clover’s Camp Date: Tuesday, June 26th –Thursday, June 28th Time: Daily 9:00 am – 12 Noon Ages: 5 to 8 Location: Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office Cost: $15 Spaces: 15 youth Description: Participants will do a variety of life skills while having fun learning nutrition, arts and crafts, science experiments, and more. Say Cheese! Photography Workshop Date: Friday, June 29th Time: 9:00 am – 12 Noon Ages: 9 and up Location: Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office Cost: $20 Spaces: 15 youth Description: Participants will receive a small digital camera to take photos during the workshop and they will take the cameras home with them. Participants will learn an assortment of photography techniques and different ways to capture memories. Eastern 4-H Center-OVERNIGHT Camp Date: Sunday, July 1st –Friday, July 6th Ages: 9 and up Location: Columbia, NC Cost: $395 Spaces: 4 female spots (All 5 male spots are full in addition to one female spot) Description: Participants will leave the Franklin County Cooperative Extension office on Sunday and travel to the Eastern 4-H Center with the 4-H Agent. The participants will spend a week with certified camp counselors and 4-H agents. Youth will enjoy activities such as: swimming, canoeing, high ropes, wall climbing, science activities, outdoor survival, arts and crafts, and so much more. Cost includes: transportation, 3 meals a day, insurance, t-shirt, store money, snacks, and FUN! Participants will need to bring money for lunch on Sunday, July 1st and money for a snack stop on Friday, July 6th. Shooting Stars! NC Planetarium!Date: Wednesday, July 11thTime: 9:30 am -5:00 pmAges: 9 and upCost: $20.00Spaces Available: 13 YouthDescription: Youth will experience in the large dome stadium the show “Magic Tree House Space Mission,” have a hands-on LIVE Magnificent Matter science performance, tour the planetarium, have a Chick-Fila bag lunch, and receive a goodie bag with Planetarium items.

DUKE Memorial GardenDate: Friday, July 13thTime: 9:00 am -3:00 pmAges: 8 and upCost: $5.00 and bring a bag lunch.Spaces Available: 12 youthDescription: Youth will have the opportunity to tour the Duke Memorial Garden on Duke University’s Campus. Snack and water will be provided for a snack. Coolers are provided for lunch.4-H CongressDates: Monday-Thursday July 16-20thAges: 14-18Location: Meet at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension OfficeCost: $250 (if scholarship funding is needed, please contact Meg at 919-496-3344)Spaces Available: 10Description: The NC State 4-H Congress is an annual educational event sponsored by the 4-H Youth Development Department at NC State University and planned by the State 4-H Council. The major purposes of NC 4-H Congress are: to perpetuate the reputations of 4-H as a major state-wide educational program, to improve delegates knowledge of current issues through educational experiences such as speakers, discussion groups, workshops, etc., to provide an opportunity to develop and exercise leadership skills through serving on committees and participating in certain programs, to provide an opportunity for delegates to participate in the democratic process through campaigning for and electing state 4-H officers, to provide recreational and social experiences for delegates, to select winners in presentations and certain activities through state contests, and to provide recognition for project, activity , and scholarship winners. During this time we will be staying in a dormitory on the NCSU campus. This is a great opportunity; we hope that you will join us! Transportation will be provided to and from Raleigh for Congress for full time delegates only. NOTE: In order to qualify for 4-H Congress, youth must participate in county presentations and/or district activity day.Re-use Creativity with the Scrap Exchange!Date: Monday, July 23rdTime: 10:30 am – 12:30 pmAges: 8 and upLocation: Franklin County Cooperative Extension AnnexCost:$10Spaces Available: 20Description: A van filled with all types of recycled materials from all types of companies will arrive at our doorstep and let you have a go at your creativity. It’s a unique, traveling hands- on creative arts activity for people of all ages.

Youth will take home two to three different art projects. Youth will put together a kit such as a LED battery powered light or a solar car kit. Youth will take these projects home.Wacky Flowers and Potato BraceletsDate: Wednesday, August 8thTime: 9:00 am – 4:00pmAges: 8 and upLocation: Franklin County Cooperative Extension AnnexCost: $10 and bring a bag lunchSpaces Available: 15Description: Design a beautiful yet wacky wall hanging with flowers and a spool of thread. Come and learn how to make a potato bracelet! A potato bracelet is made up of all stages of a potato, painted with your designs, and then strung into a bracelet and finished with a lovely clasp. Participants will learn 4-H rocketry skills and then will build a model rocket and launch it twice.Imagine This…Science on Wheels!Date: Monday, August 13thTime: 9:00 am – 12 NoonAges: 8 and upLocation: Franklin County Cooperative Extension AnnexCost: $10Description: The Imagination Station Science Museum is coming to us with their Science on Wheels! Youth participants will be involved in cookbook science and design and blast off bottle rockets. Youth will learn the technology behind science in the kitchen and the art of rockets.
