SAT Vocabulary. Fatuous—silly; foolish. Cats can be so fatuous; always getting into trouble. Parched—dried up. During the drought, the land was excessively parched. Serene—calm; peaceful. Reading makes me feel completely serene because I get to escape life for just a little while.

  2. Fatuous—silly; foolish Cats can be so fatuous; always getting into trouble.

  3. Parched—dried up During the drought, the land was excessively parched.

  4. Serene—calm; peaceful Reading makes me feel completely serene because I get to escape life for just a little while.

  5. Diligent—hard-working Ants are very dilgent workers; they can carry more than their own weight!

  6. Feasible—possible and practicable It is feasible that you will earn an A on this upcoming vocab assessment.

  7. Marred—damaged; spoiled The neighborhood was marred by last night’s thunderstorms.

  8. Pariah—an outcast from society The tomato is a social pariah with the fruit because even though he is a fruit, people think he’s a vegetable.

  9. Serrated—jagged; saw-like Some leaves actually have a serrated edge.

  10. Antiquated—outdated; old fashioned Rotary phones are completely antiquated.

  11. Inebriation—drunkenness; intoxication People tend to act rather dumb when they are inebriated.

  12. Parity—equality The dark side did one thing right: they had parity amongst their storm troopers.

  13. Profound—having deep meaning People think showing off lots of money in pictures makes a profound statement; it just shows that you only care about money.

  14. Usurp—take someone’s position (usually by force) The basis for most wars is that one group wants to usurp what the other has for their own.

  15. Apathetic—indifferent; uninterested; lethargic Mrs. Crabapple is an apathetic teacher, which is probably why she smokes in her classroom. Eeek!

  16. Skeptical—doubting; not gullible The magic 8 ball is always skeptical of my questions.

  17. Apathy—lack of interest or emotion When Chicken Little first cried that the sky was falling, everyone was apathetic, until they realized it was true.

  18. Fervor—passion; enthusiasm There’s no fervor like Friday fervor.

  19. Inept—incompetent; unskilled; useless Home is basically inept at his job at the power plant.

  20. Skirmish—minor battle Some describe the plays in football as a type of skirmish.

  21. Circumlocution—using too many words; long-windedness This is how we sometimes feel around those people who are just a tad too circumlocutious.

  22. Fickle—unpredictable; whimsical; easily swayed Despite advances in technology, the weather can still be so fickle.

  23. Masochist—person who intentionally inflicts pain on himself If this cat knew that a cactus was sharp and pointy and ate it anyway, he would be a masochist.

  24. Prolific—producing a lot Those flowers are blooming so prolifically!

  25. Appease—pacify; soothe; calm down; make peace with Pacifiers appease babies (and apparently also puppies), so they stop crying.

  26. Discord—disagreement Mr. Crab experiences discord with one of his employees.

  27. Vacuous—empty; silly; meaningless Bevis and Butthead were mentally vacuous.

  28. Apprehensive—worried; fearful Some students can be apprehensive about their class work.

  29. Maverick—a loner Being the person that stands out sometimes makes them a maverick.

  30. Smorgasbord—a wide range of something; a variety The family reunion meal was a smorgasbord feast!

  31. Vagrant—a person wandering without a home A vagrant is more than just a homeless person, they also move from place-to-place.
