  2. Terms and Meaning • The standard error (SE) is the standard deviation of the sampling distribution of a statistic. • The standard error of a measure captures its precision in a particular context. • The accuracy of a measure is captured by fit statistics.

Terms and Meaning • Fit statistics describes how well the data fits a set of observations/model. • OUTFIT is dominated by unexpected outlying, off-target, low information responses and so is outlier-sensitive. • INFIT is dominated by unexpected inlying patterns among informative, on-target observations and so is inlier-sensitive.

  4. Terms and Meaning • Fit values noticeably above 1.0 indicate excessive un-modelled noise. • Fit values noticeably below 1.0 indicate a local deficit in the stochastic (non-deterministic) variation necessary for useful measurement.

  5. Terms and Meaning • An outlier is a data value which lies in the tail of the statistical distribution of a set of data values. • An inlier is a data value that lies in the interior of a statistical distribution and is in error.

  6. Theoretical Curve (indicates the ideal for the distribution of the students with reference to their difficulty) Person Ability /Item Difficulty Continuum With 0 indicating average value Below 0 (-1 to – 5 or ∞) as below average value Above 0 (+1 to +5 or ∞) as above average value

  7. The line along the 0.5 Expected Value means that there will be a 50% probability of an average ability examinee to correctly respond to an item that is of average difficulty.
