Background I.1.1Interaction between Citizens, the Medical Profession and “Lifestyle related Industry” Citizens Lifestyle Industry Doctors Give advice to citizens (General Practitioners) Implement relevant recommendations and buy appropriate products and services Takes health criteria into account while developing new products and services and to lifestyle industry (Medical associations) Appropriate products and services are brought on the market and consumed by the relevant target groups. I.2 Persons with Special Needs, including the disabled and elderly WP 1999 Additional Call (id : IST-99-ADD)“Systems and services for independent living” WP 2000 3rd Call (id : IST-00-1-1A) “Intelligent assistive systems and interfaces to compensate for functional impairements” Note: Proposals have to submit their proposal to ONE of the two Action Lines (Centre of Gravity) - Complementary Information focuses on experiences gained in the evaluation of proposals in the First Call

Environment(cont’d) • Technology • single sensor - processing of ground-penetrating radar data • multi-sensor systems/data fusion - increase detection and reduce false-alarm rates • vehicle-based multi-sensor systems - use of sensor arrays mounted on a vehicle • advanced sensors - react to specific characteristics on a mine • Validation of prototype systems on qualified test-sites

  11. Key Messages • Innovation (see Workprogramme 2000, page 10) • ‘Users’ include public & private organisations • Exploitation and strong industrial participation • Mainly long-term & medium-term R&D projects
