  1. POLLENS ARE ‘FRUITS’ FOR THE BEES Kamaruddin Mohd Yusoff Honey Research Centre Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics Faculty of Arts and Science Canik Basari University, Samsun,Turkey E-mail : Kamaruddin@basari.edu.tr “ And your Lord inspired the bee: ‘Build your homes in the mountains and in the trees and in the (hives) made by mankind’. Then ( He taught the bee) to feed on every kind of fruit ( of the earth) and to follow the ways of your Lord made smooth “. An-Nahl(16) : 68 • What are Pollens • Pollensare fine to coarse powder containing the microgametophytes of seed plants, which produce the male gametes (sperm cells). • Hard covering of poropollenin, a major component of the tough outer (exine) wall. The chemical composition of sporopollenin is not exactly known, due to its unusual chemical stability and resistance to degradation by enzymes and strong chemical reagents. Analyses have revealed a mixture of biopolymers, containing mainly long chain fatty acids, phenylpropanoids,  phenolics and traces of carotenoids. • Sizes ranges from  6 µm (0.006 mm) in diameter to 100µm(0.1mm). • Rich in carbohydrates and proteins. May contain some vitamins and minerals. Pollens are NOT made for man The various fruits made by Allah for man are beautifully made. They have attractive characteristic aroma and are so delicious to eat. They provide the required nutrients, minerals and trace elements. Why do man have TO STEAL the fruits(pollens) from bees. Bees have NO OTHER foods to eat, they just have Pollens. pollens Pollens look like fruits when seen under high magnification • Possible Dangers of ingesting pollen : • May cause allergic reactions • May contain pesticides • May contain fungi • May contain bacteria • A recent study of bee pollen samples showed that they may contain 188 kinds of fungi and 29 kinds of bacteria.* Man uses pollen trap to steal Pollens from bees * References: Wikipedia 2013 Basari Honey Research Centre 2012
