  1. Propane Powered Blue Bird “Vision” Bus The Affordable Alternative Fuel

  2. WHAT IS LP? • LP is Liquid Propane – Propane (C3H8) • Low cost and domestically produced alternative fuel • Non toxic, clean burning fuel that is NOT a ground contaminant. • Abundant supply in the United States: 60% comes from natural gas & 40% from refining oil • Propane is naturally a low emission fuel: Near ZERO particulate matter • Creates a “Green” fleet • Supports Energy Independence

  3. Miles Per Gallon / Fuel Cost Per Gallon 9 8 6 $3.59 $1.93

  4. C O S T P E R G A L L O N NYS OGS FUEL COMPARISON Month of Fuel Purchase

  5. Cost of Fuel for Each Mile Driven

  6. FUELING STATION • As easy to use as a regular gas station pump • Filling time is no longer than diesel • Fueling Stations are eligible for Federal Grants • Above ground tank • Scalable system

  7. ANALYSIS • Net Propane Option is $12,200 • Cost to the District(67% State Aid) is $4,026 • Cost Per Mile/Diesel = $.54 • Cost Per Mile/Propane = $.26 (With Credit) • Savings = $.28 Per Mile. • Average Miles Driven Per Year is 12,000 • Savings Per Unit/Per Year Approximately $3,360

  8. BENEFITS OF PROPANE OVER DIESEL • Less Expensive • Cleaner burning. Exceeds all State and Federal EPA requirements beyond 2010. It’s the “Greenest of the Green” • Certified with EPA & CARB at Zero Particulate Matter • Does not require emissions devices to collect the EPA banned exhaust soot.

  9. BENEFITS OF PROPANE OVER DIESEL • It is currently the world’s most proven, reliable and widely used alternative fuel, fueling more than 10 million vehicles internationally. • A+ for the district in the eyes of the tax payers for seeking out a “Green” technology that is both efficient and affordable.

  10. SOURCES OF INFORMATION • Highway Act, Sec. 1113: “Volumetric Excise Tax Credit for Alternative Fuels” – VETC - Effective 10/1/2006 through 9/30/2009 - Applicable to sellers of LPG and known as VETC $.50 per gallon credit. • Energy Act, Sec. 1342: “Credit for Installation of Alternative Fuel Stations” - Effective 12/31/2005 through 12/31/2009 - Provides a tax credit of up to 30% of the value of an LPG fueling station, up to $30,000
