  1. Consortium Meeting 4/10/12 @ 10am Conference call: 712 432-9998 Access Code 963815#

  2. Agenda I. Governance and Fundraising Issues • Substantive preliminary discussion: To what extent does the NY LawHelp Consortium resemble a non-profit board of directors; how does it differ? • Developing a system for In-Kind Contributions • Exploring other fundraising options, i.e. online fundraising and monetizing websites • Including LawHelp/NY in members’ fundraising proposals II. Program Updates: • Fundraising Updates • LiveHelp and Outreach Partnerships • LawHelp/NY TIPS (Training and Information Program, Statewide! ) “On the Ground”

  3. Preliminary Discussion: • To what extent does the NY LawHelp Consortium resemble a non-profit board of directors; how does it differ? • Ideally, should the New York LawHelp Consortium • function like a Board of Directors? If so, what steps should we be taking to move closer to this model? • (Refer to Background Info Emailed)

  4. The role of a non-profit board member is comprised of only three activities: •Fundraising (80 %) • Oversight of Programs (10 %) • Strategic Planning (10 %)

  5. Developing a system for In-Kind Contributions How can we improve how In-Kind contributions to LawHelp/NY work? What are some ideas for keeping track of In-Kind contributions? **For example, we currently could benefit from the expertise of an Immigration lawyer and a Communications or Marketing Staff member who has experience in branding**

  6. Exploring other fundraising options • Online fundraising • Monetizing websites. Is it realistic or favorable?

  7. Including LawHelp/NY TIPS! Program in members’ fundraising proposals Do members have current/future funding proposals that could include LawHelp/NY in their outreach plans?

  8. Program Updates 2012 Fundraising Update: IOLA TIG NYCT Council Members

  9. LawHelp/NY Training and Information Program Statewide! (TIPS) Collaborations

  10. LiveHelp/LIFT • Legal Information for Families Today will have an operator taking chats on Fridays from 9-5pm • The LIFT Operator is a staff attorney at LIFT who runs the LIFT phone hotline. • Thursday April 5th there was a LIFT training on LawHelp/NY, LiveHelp and the Admin console • LIFT is working on a pre-chat survey, operator survey and exit survey • PBN is setting up a practice site to do a practice run this week. • Liz Keith at PBN will be working with Melanie Hart at LIFT on technical issues • There will be a button on the LIFT webpage that will allow visitors to the LIFT site to click to chat. • LawHelp/NY operators will be trained to transfer chats on LIFT related topics to a LIFT operator. • Launch Date for a trial run is Friday April 20th • LIFT, PBN, and LawHelp.org/NY will coordinate press releases for the launch.

  11. LawHelp/NY TIPS!/NYLAG Mobile Legal Help Center • Met with Jane Rosales, Coordinator of the Mobile Legal Help Center in March. • She had heard of LawHelp/NY and is excited to work with us • Main initiative from meeting was how the LawHelp/NY Summer interns can collaborate with the mobile unit. • Jane will send us the unit’s summer schedule so that interns can coordinate their outreach with the unit. If the unit is in Astoria then our interns will be in Astoria promoting LH and the unit. This gives our interns a very substantial referral to give to people on the spot. • Also discussed possibly putting a How - to - use LH video in their waiting room, which can be continuously playing. However, with the rebuild we will have to create a new video.

  12. LawHelp/NY TIPS “On the Ground”

  13. Highlight of 2012 Outreach Events • Tom presented at NMIC on 2/29/12. NMIC organizes computer education classes for Spanish speaking residents of Northern Manhattan. Tom gave hour long presentation to two classes of approximately 20 students each. After the presentation the director of NMIC, Michael Perrone, was so impressed with LawHelp that he offered to have us give presentations to classes 4 times a year. • Tom presented at Families Building Community on 3/22/12. Present were ACS workers, foster parents, and legal services organizations' staff. When FBC's coordinator announced that a LawHelp representative was there to say a few words, the director of the program jumped out of his seat with enthusiasm and gave a warm welcome expressing the valuable services that LawHelp provides.

  14. Celebrating LawHelp/NY’s 10th Anniversary Ideas so far Include: • Event at the 2012 Partnership Conference and a banner ad for legal aid programs put on their websites. • Susan Patnode from Rural Law Center is working with Leah to develop and collect “kudos” and testimonials from our legal aid community. What are other ways we can celebrate LawHelp/NY's 10th year anniversary?
