Overview • Existing management commitment to the environment at Pembrokeshire College • Environmentally sensitive new builds with biomass boilers / solar electric and heating • Pursued and achieved Green Dragon environmental standard Level 3. Will be trying for Level 4 this year • Final stage of Green Gown awards for carbon reduction (two entries highly commended last year).

What next and how? • Investigate areas of highest expenditure first, environmental savings are often proportional to financial savings • Change behaviour • Raise awareness • Get the environmental sympathisers on board and market the benefits • Make staff & students accountable, relate to real money and/or trees • Offer a viable alternative

  6. The cost • In paper £6,500 • In toner £19,000 • In printer maintenance kits £4,000 • In IT support time ???? • TOTAL £29,500 (NET)

  7. The Objectives • To reduce the overall volume of printing at Pembrokeshire College by 20%, saving £7,500 GROSS. • To introduce a managed printing solution in co-operation with staff which raised awareness without impacting on people’s ability to do their job.

  8. The Objectives cont. • To improve the systems hosting electronic information to provide a viable alternative to printing by introducing a new Intranet web based information storage system. • To improve the uptake to the ‘Moodle’ learning environment by staff.

Outcomes • 332,000 pages saved so far this academic year representing • 22% reduction in printing (staff and student) • 40 fully grown trees • £4,500 (NET) saved on paper and ink so far • Using current trend will achieve £6,500 (NET) by the end of the academic year • These are annual operational savings

  12. The future • Extend reprographics service to include document upload as an alternative • Keep abreast of biggest print requirements and review associated processes
