  2. What is UWAFT? The EcoCAR 2 Competition UWAFT is a student team that draws upon top engineering and business students from the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University to design, build and market the green car of tomorrow. Our goals include educating the public about alternative fuels and hybrid technologies and raising environmental awareness. We compete in EcoCAR 2. Established by the U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors, the EcoCAR 2: Plugging In to the Future competition provides invaluable experience and hands-on training to promising young minds entering the North American workforce. Shaped by the greatest design changes in the history of the automotive industry, EcoCAR 2 challenges students at 15 of North America’s premier universities to explore a variety of powertrain architectures with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of a Chevrolet Malibu without compromising performance, safety, or consumer acceptability. Our Design • E85 series plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) architecture • 18.9 kWh battery will power two motors • 260 horsepower • 0-100 km/h in 7 seconds • 2.4 L GM-donated engine running on E85 fuel extends the vehicle’s range • Specifications on the basis of real-world • driving habits and consumer insights. Sponsorship packages are open to negotiation to reflect the value of the sponsorship, the needs of the sponsor, and the needs of UWAFT.
