  3. Haiti An island in the Caribbean called Hispaniola – the East part of the Island is the Dominican Republic. The smaller Western part of the island is Haiti.

  4. Haiti Despite Haiti’s poverty and violence, art is embedded in Haitian culture. Did you know: Haiti is the poorest country in our hemisphere (even before the earthquake). Most Haitians live on $2 or less per day. An earthquake in 2010 devastated the already impoverished country.

  9. Drapos Haiti is a nation rich with art. Drapos are one of the most celebrated genres of Haitian art. Usually made of satin, velvet, rayon, and adorned with sequins, beads, or appliques. Lots of religious imagery and symbolism in drapo banners. They are often used in religious ceremonies. These banners are often used as narratives to tell a story. These beautiful flags represent the rich, colorful culture of Haiti.
