Ebola Virus Disease: DRC Geographical distribution of the EVD cases DRC, 30 May 2018 • The EVD outbreak in Equateur Province, Democratic Republic of Congo is still active • On 30 May 2018: One new confirmed case was reported in Iboko • Since 4 April 2018: • 56 suspected cases, including 25 deaths (CFR 44.6%) • 37 cases confirmed • 13 probable (deaths for which specimens were not obtained) • 5 HCWs have been affected with two deaths • 62 % (23) of the confirmedcases came from Iboko • Risk Assessment: • National level: Very high • Regional level: High • At global level: Low Source: WHO Health Emergencies AFRO week 22 bulletin on outbreaks and public health emergencies

Ebola Virus Disease: DRC • The outbreak remains localized to the three health zones initially affected: • Iboko (25 cases and 5 deaths),Bikoro (26 cases and 17 deaths), Wangata (5 cases and 3 deaths) • A total of 880 contacts are being actively followed up • Risk communication: door-to-door awareness activities ongoing, more than 10,000 households visited • Ring vaccination launched on 21 May 2018: • a total of 1,199 people have been vaccinated (including front-line health workers, people exposed to confirmed EVD cases and contacts of these contacts) Source: WHO Health Emergencies AFRO week 22 bulletin on outbreaks and public health emergencies

Public Health Measures: DRC • As of 28 May: • 23 countries have implemented entry screening for international travellers coming from DRC • WHO currently advises against the application of any travel or trade restrictions to DRC • WHO is working IOM and CDC to map PoE and strengthen appropriate screening systems at strategic PoE Source: WHO Health Emergencies AFRO week 22 bulletin on outbreaks and public health emergencies

7. Undiagnosed Disease: Uganda • The Uganda MoH: • has reported a cluster of an undiagnosed disease with a high • death rate in Manafwa District in the eastern region • On 23 May 2018: The event detected through an informal surveillance report indicating that 14 children, of whom eight had died and six hospitalized. • The case patients, children of 10 years and below, presented: high fever, abdominal pain, dark- coloured urine, and jaundice. • Since 26 May 2018: • 19 suspected cases, including 8 deaths (CFR- 42%). 8. Lassa Fever: Nigeria • In Week 22 (ending June 03, 2018): • One new confirmed case was reported from Edo state. • From January – June 3, 2018: • a total of 1,969 s suspected cases have been reported from 21 states • Of these: 432 were confirmed including 108 deaths (CFR – 25.%), • 10 are probable, • 38 health care workers have been affected including 9 deaths • Five states remain in active outbreak phase • A total of 5,327contacts have been identified • 99% (5 316) have completed 21 days • 55 contacts are still under follow up Epi curve of Lassa fever Confirmed (432) and Probable (10) Cases in Nigeria week 1- 22, 2018 • PUBLIC HEALTH ACTIONS • National Lassa fever After Action Review Meeting (AARM) scheduled for 5 - 7 of June 2018 • Active case search ongoing • National Lassa fever multi-sectorial EOC TWG continues to coordinate the response activities at all levels Source: WHO Health Emergencies AFRO week 22 bulletin on outbreaks and public health emergencies

9. Monkey Pox: Cameroon • Since 14 May 2018: • The outbreak of Monkeypox in Cameroon continues, with three new areas being affected • 30 May 2018: • 9 additional cases were reported • Cumulatively: A total of 16 suspected cases including one confirmed case • Risk communication materials have been disseminated • Training of healthcare workers on using PPE Geographical distribution of Monkeypox cases in Cameroon, 30 April - 30 May 2018 • PUBLIC HEALTH MEASURES: • Active surveillance is ongoing in affected areas • Communication and social mobilization • Cases have been managed at local health facilities. 10. Other Events Under Follow-up • Cholera: Tanzania • As of 29, May 2018: • 2,105 suspected cholera cases, including 44 deaths (CFR-2%) • Three out of 26 regions currently have active transmission, • Monkey Pox: CAR • On 20 May 2018: 20 cases including one death have been reported. • Nine samples have tested positive for Monkey Pox • Measles: Algeria • A total of 2,320 cases including 5 deaths have been reported • Cholera: Zimbabwe: • Since 23 March 2018: a total of 64 suspected cases with three deaths (CFR - 4.7%) have been reported, as of 16 May 2018. • Of these, 22 cases have been confirmed, two cases classified as probable and 38 cases remained suspected • Measles: Guinea • A total of 1,113 suspected cases including nine deaths • 267 samples tested IGM positive. • 76% were not vaccinated for measles despite vaccination campaign efforts in 2017
