Regionalization of operation tools Regional monitoring with Nagios • Mixed deployment: • Validation central regional setup at CERN (1 box per ROC) • Regional boxes in all ROCs • Ongoing testing, to be compared to validation instances Operations dashboard using Nagios • Validation central instance with regional views available • Ongoing testing, comparison with central instance + SAM • Regional instance available for test Next critical steps: • Validation by ROCs of regional Nagios • Validation of central dashboard (with regional views)using Nagios • Switch from CERN Nagios boxes to regional ones • Switch dashboard from SAM to Nagios Time estimate: 1 month, being optimistic! Regionalization of operation tools Issues: • Readiness of ROCs to test new components and give feedback • Information flow • Documentation, deployment guides, support mailing lists, etc • Complex coordination between tools, many dependencies Early experiences • Early willingness to deploy regional instances has calmed down • They are newly developed tools to be deployed and run by ROCs • Central instances with regional view offer same functionality but are run by somebody else • In some cases (GGUS) we see the opposite request • From regional helpdesk to regional view in GGUS The final scenario at the end of EGEE will be mixed (and might be the case for the next years) • Regional instances coexisting with central ones providing regional views • New scenario not considered till now… SA1 Coordination Meeting - 15-Dec-09 - CERN

Regional teams (COD) They are all regional since June this year Very active is testing new regionalized tools and give feedback Essential forum to disseminate information to regions about ongoing changes Questionnaire done to understand readiness of NGI regional teams • Difficult to contact NGIs • Mixed level of readiness • Many ROCs will keep present structure, 3 will split, 2 with many sites (SEE and CE) SA1 Coordination Meeting - 15-Dec-09 - CERN

  7. EGEE tasks not clear in EGI GSV: contributions from NGIs, leadership without clear funding associated Catch all ROC: not seen as needed in EGI, buddy system between NGIs? Dteam VO: more discussions needed to understand present use Weekly operations meeting: O-E-5 NL/Pol? NGI prototypes Some ROCs/NGIs expressed will to start activities as NGIs as soon as possible, in EGEE times • This was not originally planned, EGEE SA1 planned distribution to ROCs • Proposal to get volunteer NGIs to go through the process, find issues and document them • Poland from CE ROC • First theoretical analysis done • Many questions raised • Target date on end of February to finish the exercise and report about it • Greece from SEE ROC • Will wait to migration from SAM to nagios (mid March) and then start • Serbia and Turkey will follow SA1 Coordination Meeting - 15-Dec-09 - CERN
