You were not allowed to bring your bow and arrow into University lectures. In the 1300s there was a plague of drunkenness. The theory was that it prevented contagion. It didn’t… but it made the drinker less concerned, which was something. “August was the month when flies started to become a problem, buzzing round the dung heaps in the corner of every farmyard and hovering over the open cesspits of human refuse that were located outside every house.” Clothes had no buttons.   3. In 1054 there was a lasting split in the Churches of the East and West. The Church in the West is called the Church of Italy. The West and East had very different cultures, politics and societies. Orthodox means original worship. London was an important centre of Christianity. Orthodox means true or right worship. Write out the statements which are true…

  4. PATRIARCH – Highest ranking Bishop in an important area. SCHISM – Division. LITURGY – Official worship of the Church. ICONS – A religious image or picture. VENERATE – Devotion e.g. bowing or genuflecting. ICONOSTASIS – A screen covered in icons which separates the Sanctuary from the rest of the Church. Memorise these definitions…
