What Metrics Are important? • Time from submission to reviewer assignment (Linda + AEs = 2 wks) • Time to first decision (+ Reviewers + AEs = + 5 wks) • Time from Author revision to decision (AEs = 1 wk) • Time from Author files complete to Page Proofs (+ Linda + Pub. Production = 6 wks) • Time from Corrected Page Proofs to Web Posting (+ Pub. Production = 1 week) • Total (14 to 15 weeks plus author delays)

Special Issues • Approval Procedure • Potential Guest editors send a proposal to the EIC • EIC works with potential guest editors to refine the concept • EIC sends proposal to the Editorial Board for review and comments • Feedback is incorporated into the project • If the AEs’ reactions are favorable, the SI is approved and the Call for Papers is posted on the website and published in the Journal • An announcement is sent by e-mail to 10,000 names on the e-mail list (maintained by John Vig). • Future Plans • Two to three SIs per year

Citation Index & Impact Factor • Process • Three consecutive issues mailed on time. • Process of collecting data then begins. • Data gathering process takes two years. • Schedule • Since LEOS joined our team, SJ issue are being mailed on time, and the most recent issues went out early. • Data gathering began in mid 2004. • Process should be completed in 2006.

Proposal for Senior AEs • Description: • An award for excellent service • Limit number to 5 or 6 • Two-year term (renewable once for potential EIC candidates) • Qualifications/Selection Process: • Four years of exemplary service • Nominated by EIC, approved by VP Pubs • Justification: • Most productive AEs are about to retire – need a way to retain their expertise • Establishes a competitive process to generate multiple viable EIC candidates

Summary • Administration Overview • LEOS support is excellent! • Backlog of old manuscripts has been cleared. • Our statistical measures are improving. • Current highest priorities are 1) soliciting SIs for 2006 and 2007, and 2) recruiting new AEs. • Future Activities • Annual Award for SJ Best Paper (Journal Editorial Board will participate in the process) • Being in the Citation Index is extremely important! • Six issues per year, growing to 200 pages per issue, and beyond. • Develop even closer ties with the IEEE SENSORS conference to ensure a steady stream of high-quality manuscripts. • Two to three Special Issues per year will keep the Journal at the forefront of emerging technologies.
