  1. See seating chart on front desk and find your seat. Do Now: fill out your note card • First and last name • Describe how you best learn and study • What is the teacher’s job? • What did you do last year that you want to do better this year? • What is your goal for this academic year at St. Joe’s? • Explain any accommodations you need to succeed in this class.

  2. In your agenda, write your English HW: • Bring notebook with 5 dividers and paper tomorrow. • Bring back signed syllabus. • Bring journals.

  3. Scholars… Sit up Listen Ask and answer questions Nod your head Track

  4. When you’re done… • Take out a piece of paper and write this sentence down: Margaret slept. Add as much to this sentence without changing “Margaret” and “slept” as you can. Write as many versions until I say stop.

  5. On the same sheet of paper from before, everybody writes… What are the different "languages" you use? When and why? Consider both reading and writing, and don't forget about email! If you speak another language, include it (or possibly them if you know more than one). What do you say with your friends or at home that you don’t in other situations? What are those situations? What are some examples of the different languages you speak? Feel free to translate them.

  6. Do now: Turn in your syllabus, put yur personal item on your desk. Then, label your five dividers… • BW/ Notes • Lit. terms • Reading strategies • Reading Log & Letters • Tests and quizzes

  10. Do Now: In your journal: Everybody Writes: • What was challenging about writing for a sustained period of time in their journal? • Explain what you liked about it. • Explain what was challenging. How will you adjust your habits to overcome the difficulty in writing each day?
