  3. You could view a battery as a kind of pump. But instead of pumping water through pipes, the battery moves electrons through a wire and through the things that the wire is connected to.

  4. Here's how a dry cell works: The cell is made up of a zinc can, which acts as the container.

  7. A chemical reaction from the paste causes the zinc container to steal electrons from the carbon atoms. The carbon atoms become positive while the zinc atoms become negative.

  8. If a circuit is created between the positive and negative terminals of our cell, the electrons will be pulled by the positive carbon atoms. The electrons are pushed by the chemical reaction until the metals are too corroded and the cell is said to be “dead”.
