Cactus Flats Area Demographics • From 2000 to 2005 total population has increased from 235,987 to 401,745 • The opening of Golden Years retirement community in Poison Springs has caused a tripling of the over 55 population in that community. • There has been a large influx of non-English speaking foreign workers who come to work in the uranium mines located in the area of Dead Man’s Gulch. • Poison Spring’s population has decreased by 18% due to the closing of the uranium smelter by order of the EPA. • Buzzard’s Canyon’s population has almost doubled due to the construction of new housing catering to commuters to Gigantic City, located 93 miles away.

  12. Cactus Flats Area Economy • The northern part of the district, because of its relative proximity to Gigantic City, is enjoying spillover economic growth generated by that city. It is characterized by high employment. • The southern part of the district is economically stagnant due to the closing of the uranium smelter. With the closing of the smelter, unemployment has risen. However, this economic situation has been mitigated somewhat by the construction of Golden Years retirement community. • United Atomics, the second largest producer of radioactive ingots, has recently announced plans to build a facility in Dead Man’s Gulch, located in the center of the district. This facility is projected to employ 5,000 workers and will make radioactive ingots for home and office use.

  14. Goal 1: Excellence in Teaching and Learning • The district will coordinate the development of a system to meet the educational needs of the communities served by the respective colleges.

Goal 2: Student Access, Involvement, and Support for Success • The district will strive to provide quality services and programs that increase student access into the college, along with opportunities and support services that lead to appropriate preparation and increased success of all students.

  16. Goal 3: Diversity • The district is committed to the creation of an environment that embraces diversity and reflects the demographics of the service area.

  17. Goal 4: Technology Integration • To explore, update, implement, and support the integration of technology into all areas of the learning experience, thus providing a more effective use of resources to continuously enhance the educational process and operation of CFCCD.

  18. Goal 5: Community Building • CFCCD will continue to develop school and community partnerships.

  19. Goal 6: Economic Development • CFCCD will continue to expand and improve upon the occupational education training programs and economic development partnerships throughout our region.
