Welcome to Summer
Having a safe and respectful environment is a key factor to our success in community building.
As our newest citizens, you are a vital part of keeping our community a safe and good place to be.
You have made a great choice in becoming a Laker.
In addition to police efforts…we need our students to do their part to make this a safer campus and to make good choices for their own safety.
Campus safety is everyone’s responsibility and everyone can help maintain a safer environment.
Safety and security are a two fold responsibility………..
First let’s discuss the students role in safety, which is to:
Be responsible for your personal safety and your own property.
If you see something, say something! Call UPD at 312-5555.
As key members of the campus community, you are asked to report crimes, suspicious persons or hazardous situations to University Police immediately at 312-5555
Emergency Planning and Response
Emergency Planning and Response at SUNY Oswego is coordinated through the UPD.
The Emergency Response Plan is comprehensive and includes procedures for all contingencies.
UPD partners with other surrounding agencies such as the NYSP, OCSO and OPD in the instance of large scale events we help each other as needed.
Our agency is called NYSUP – New York State University Police.
Located in Pathfinder Hall

We are the primary law enforcement agency on SUNY property.
We respond to all emergency and law enforcement incidents.
The UPD has police jurisdiction over any property owned or controlled by SUNY Oswego, police officers have statewide jurisdiction in NY.
Officers perform mobile, foot, and/or bicycle patrols throughout the campus 24hrs a day
NYSUP officers are sworn police officers.
All officers have a college degree.
All officers undergo continuous training on a variety of police topics
NY Alert will notify you if we have an emergency or class cancellation on campus 24/7.
RAVE Guardian is your way to alert UPD if you have an emergency or need police services fast.
