Digital Databuses – J1939. 2007 Spartan Chassis have multiplexed gauges. The gauges use J1939 as the source for all of the engine and transmission information speedometer acts as master gauge: Speedometer Tachometer Oil Pressure Engine coolant temp Voltmeter Transmission temp.

Digital Databuses – J1939 • 2007 Spartan Chassis have multiplexed gauges. • The gauges use J1939 as the source for all of the engine and transmission information speedometer acts as master gauge: • Speedometer • Tachometer • Oil Pressure • Engine coolant temp • Voltmeter • Transmission temp • The fuel and air pressure gauges are not read from the J1939 databus.

  2. 2007 gauge diagnostics • Diagnostic mode • PB set • Vehicle speed = 0 • Ignition on • Press “M” button for 5 seconds then release • “M” or “T” to scroll up or down • Press both “M” and “T” to enter selected diagnostic section

  8. 2007 Gauge Second Line Display • Second line display • PB set • Vehicle speed = 0 • Ignition on • Press “M” button for less than 5 seconds then release • “M” or “T” to scroll up or down • Press both “M” and “T” to select the highlighted parameter for second line display. Trip odometer - Instant fuel econ – Avg fuel econ – Hourmeter- Ammeter

Auto Neutral Feature • Transmission shifts to neutral when the PB is set • Tachometer displays “Range Inhibit” • Shifter displays • left segment flashes the gear you had selected • Right segment “N” • The transmission is in neutral but does not send out a neutral signal • Starter button doesn’t work • Functions dependant on neutral signal don’t work • Fast idle, PTO, Etc…

  14. DPF • Diesel ParticulateFilter • Also known as • Aftertreatment device, Catalytic converter • Critical component for emission compliance • Collects particulate matter • Must regenerate periodically • Passive (no action required by operator) • Active (manual switch must be activated)

  19. DPF Lamp & Check Engine Lamp • IndicatesIMMEDIATE need to regenerate DPF • High severity level • Stationary with manual switch • Failure to regen will lead to potential severe engine derate

  20. Stop Engine Lamp • Indicates DPF cannot be regenerated • DPF is too restricted to be regenerated • Must be serviced by authorized engine service center.

  21. HEST Lamp • Indicates high exhaust temperatures • Temperatures vary with engine model • May be speed interlocked • Can come on during normal operation • Will come on during regeneration

  22. MIL Lamp • Malfunction indicator lamp • Indicates an emissions related fault • Detroit Diesel engines only
